Will the priest serve less of a sentence if he says he was molested, too? Our justice system says that if someone molests you, it's pretty understandable for you to go after them 10 years later and shoot them. That's fucked up. That's American justice right there. Personally, I think that everyone who shoots someone else should be punished the same unless it's for self-defense. Capping a guy because you stroked him off 10 years ago is not self-defense.
