How hard was it when you decided to go vegetarian? What was the hardest thing to give up?

I'm slowly changing to vegetarianism, and just wondering how it went for others.

I was vegetarian for several years, but recently have been having problems committing to it again. At the moment I end up staying meet free for a few weeks and then I break down and have some chicken or some fish.It usually happens when I am busy as I find vegetarian cooking takes more planning and discipline to prepare than meat...But it can be very tasty and more healthy too.I bought a new vegetarian cookbook yesterday so tomorrow I am going to try to make a better go of it and also to see it as a serious lifestyle change, which will go hand in hand with my reduced alcohol consumption of late...Let me know how it goes PhotoDude and maybe we can share experiences...Who knows, maybe even recipes!

I could still murder a bacon sarnie 10-12 years later. It passes, though. Don't make a massive deal of it and bore your friends with it every time you eat.

It's funny the shit people give you for passing on the meat dish and just eating the other stuff. They really seem to get upset.

It's unholy difficult. You'll find you eat alot of vegetables though. I have known people now who were vegetarian their whole life and they aren't healthier as a group than meet eaters. Maybe moderation towards little meat.

I was a yogi in college and lived at a university where meditation was the norm and you would think it must have been easy then since I had vegetarian meals always available. I'll tell you what, sometimes I would eat five oranges or apples and note how each tasted different. I also always took soy protein powder and psyllium husk in juice once a day. You think you'd get more fiber but not necessarily. You start really craving dessert. You still eat eggs in dessert. Give that up you go mad. Listen carefully to vegans, they'll all stark raving lunatics, and they die young.

Paramount is learning about nutrition so you get all the lipids, aminos, and trace things. It's hard to get enough acetylcholine from veggy diet which is necessary for thought, but you'll get it from things like tumeric and eggs and cheese. ETC
