I'd just like to start by saying that I borrowed the first two lines of this poem from a Pogues song called "A Thousand Ships Are Sailing" This poem was an assignment in school and the task was to use as my first lines a line from a song or book or whatever and turn it into something that was mine and not influenced by the source i got it from... Anyway, I thought it turned out pretty well, and here it is: ALL FOR YOU "When I got back to my empty room, I suppose I must have cried—" the beast within at war with the vagueness in your eyes. I can’t break away from this charade. Anyone can see my panicked heart, it isn’t hard— I pinned it to the dark, romantic sky and left it there, flawed. I hold no paper dreams, just worthless memories— a lonely game I used to play, a breath, a second-hand disease. My pain will be a midnight song, a discordant list that grows— I sing for you, my shameful rose. I draw a heart, with beautiful intricacies— through careless words and no control, I watch it flee. You could be my reason to live, but I’ll never tell you that— I find no need, no sweet relief, but still go on, looking back. When I get to my empty room, I suppose I’ll cry— my mistaken belief in forever, echoed by the nightmare in your eyes. I can’t break away from this charade. feedback of any kind is appreciated
