So, my hair is shrinking like crazy and some dreads are longer than others. They are only 3 months old so they are not thick enough to tie themselves up or anything cool. Give me some ideas on how you wear your hairs? My dreads are shoulder length'ish. Post pics too! kthnxbye. :mickey:
I just tie mine back and make a little bun at the nape of my neck. Sometimes I do a normal pony tail but not often because it's so much effort lol. Sometimes I just pull back the front dreads and use a tie or a clip.
Oh man. Where to start. For work, I generally wear a low pony tail, where I sort of twist my hair to give that rolled look. There's the pineapple/SideshowBob. High top knot tail The SideshowMel/Amidala1. High top knot where the hair is only pulled halfway through the elastic to create loops. Fluff loops The Janeway. Rolled sides into bobish rolled back. The Crown/Nest Continuous roll all the way around with no part. The Amidala2. Rolled/twisted from the back part and banded at the front of the head. The Leia. Side buns. All of these, I can modify with the option to let my loose hair line get sucked into the rolls or to let it fall straight. Sorta like bangs, but all the way around and dyed. (My hair line it too fine and will not lock up) So yeah...
i never knew how to to buns with normal hair so i dont think ill even try with dreads. do want to learn to fishtail braid tho!
Most of the time I just put a hat on lol. But I like taking a few from the front, twisting them round to the back and clipping them behind, on both sides. That's usually how I wear them. I don't really wear pony tails or buns because the hairband gets caught even if they are only up for an hour and I have to cut the band out and then rip so much and its just too much effort! Fish tail is something I want to try too

Though not a girl, this is something I have experience with. I'm not dealing with shrinkage anymore, but I do know about annoying short dreads as I trim mine right back once a year and I always want them out of my face. I do different things for when they're at different stages of growing out. Short When they're really short I'll go with either a headband or a tam/hat. I get headbands from girls accessory stores (I'm THAT cool). I prefer the thicker ones for general headband use. Pull it down over my head and onto my neck, then lift it back up until it's in position. I generally don't try and get it right at the fringe / forehead area because it won't sit securely. I have also used a tam. A tam is the name for the big floppy hats that people wear to hold their dreadlocks. I have one that looks like an oversized beanie (I'm not a fan of the big ones that have peaks on - the ones that look like giant baseball hats). Mine is soft and is just a thick knitted net. If you can get one made out of wool it will help make your hair frizzy and knotty. Medium When they start to get a little longer I try to tie them back. I favour using a headband (thick or thin) but a hair bobble can also work fine. The loose dreadlocks can be tucked under the tied back ones or you can use a second headband that just sits on your hair to hold the tiny ones down. Long When they're long they tend to get in the way more, but they're much easier to deal with. You can use any of the above methods or you can tie them back with themselves. This is what I tend to do because I keep forgetting to put a headband on my wrist once I get out of the shower! To do this you just need to find two sufficiently long dreads on the back of your head near your neck and then tie them together around your other dreads. You can use more than one dread on each side if they're long enough and there are all sorts of different knots and patterns you can use. This method works great as you don't need anything other than the dreads, but I can cause a little discomfort if you tie them too tight as the dreads will pull on your scalp.
When I don't have them just down loose (which I do most days, they're short so they're not that annoying and they're less than 7 months old so I want to give them plenty of movement) I either put them back with a headband or up in tiny bunches
I guess I need to buy more bobby pins, headwraps, and rubberbands and just practice different looks. I usually just throw them back in a bun. Kewp posting ideas as you come up with them!
im not a lady, but i have really short locks, i tie them up in 3 places, 2 on the sides and the bunch in the back.
Fishtail is super easy, if you have two mirrors placed so you can see the back of your head or have a friend do it, it's super simple. Just part your hair in half like you are about to tie your hair in pigtails, then grab one or two dreads from one side( depending on how you want it to look) an then cross it to the other side. Repeat with the opposite side and until you get to the end, then tie it with a hair tie.
Yeah I used to use bobby pins alllll the time when it just above my shoulders. I would braid (what I could) off to the side and hold it down with as many bobby pins as it took. You could probably use some stronger metal alligator clips as well.
