I guess I'd mostly like to get more information on these types of communities. Im a 22 year old female living in Pittsburgh, PA and Im basically searching for where and who I want to be, and how I'd like to live my life. I have been researching communities and the idea of intentional living or even a traveling community. There is still a lot I do not understand but I'd very much like to learn more.

I am currently working full time and absolutely sick of dealing with the hustle and bustle of "normal" living.

Any information on how to find the right community, or where I should start would be helpful...Im open to many ideas and areas...

I have lived in the Pittsburgh area my whole life and know there is so much more I need to see and so much more I can do to live a happy/healthy lifestyle.

Find a place at www.ic.org and try it then go on from there.

pick your state you want. I happen to be in Pa myself but i am an old hippie :)

Ive looked at that site before..the issue is that I cant narrow it down to just a couple places id like to go. Before I came up with this idea I was researching solo female travel and was considering leaving the country..but then I decided I should start smaller. But I just know I need to explore and get more out of life then what im getting here.

Id love to learn about your community....im definitly still in the beginning stages of this plan and need to weigh out all my options.
    Thanks for your help :)

Twin oaks and some of the other income sharing communities have visitor programs you can try. At least then you could see if you really liked communal living. You can get info on them from the IC.org website.

Hi Finding, I am also in the same stages of planning, although I have been about my plans for over a year. I am 20 years old and located in NY. I have found a few communes that seem interesting, but I can't just take what I see for granted, and I understand how difficult it can be. Sadly, I have to sit through the winter before I can venture off; because I am not prepared to get sick travelling (since I will only walk, or bike). I wish you the best of luck!

Out of experience I will tell you: When you want it the most; do it, don't hold back, because you will find yourself still sitting here looking for a place to go. God Speed!

    Thanks for the advice everyone!

I think at this point I'm holding off on the commune thing...idk how I'm gonna do it but I need a whole new change of pace and scenery...I'm thinking about putting my 2 weeks in at my job putting all the stuff in my apartment in storage or at my parents house and just driving until I find something interesting. I know that sounds juvenile but "running away" from reality might just be what I need to clear my head. Since I'm not in a lease I can move out at any time..so I'm just gonna save up some money and hit the road I think...thoughts on this? I'm open to constructive criticism lol
