People are confusing things such as curfew, evacuations, and restricted access with martial law. The conspiracy groups like to jump all over this and spread fear and misinformation. People who make these claims need to show the documents that a governor would sign to implement martial law.

Yep.. Martial Law is quite different... You DON'T want to see that happen... If it does... Well, let's just say it will not be pretty.. You think Curfews aren't pretty, Marshall Law they can pretty much shoot you on sight for breaking curfew.. They will just escort you home if it's just a curfew, or lock you up until curfew is over.... :afro:

Hiel Big Brother!!! He'll Protect us!!! Save us from the evil terrorist!!! (even if that evil terrorist happens to be peaceful people who protect their homes with dangerous WEAPONS.(Possibly of "Mass destruction."))

Nyxx, you never know. I've heard there's some "Brutal Ragimes" in New Jersey (The Israeli Prime Minister told me so..)

Which brings me to my next point, why ONLY Martial Law???

Let's go the whole 9 yards, and wage a full blown war with the East Coast...

    Yes..... it's a problem.

Not quite martial law. If it was that, there would be a lot of people shooting back, and it would be a PR disaster.

But obviously, being able to set a curfew for adults is a problem.

The News called it Martial Law, and it's defined as the Military being used to police the populace!!! That is NEVER okay IMHO.

What is a government to do when stupid people want to stay in their homes or return to their homes while a hurricane is sweeping across where they live?

Let people make their own choices. Why don't we put a curfew on every storm chaser if that's the case?

Is it the government responsibility to ensure people are in their homes?

I love talking to liberals, I'm intrigued. Cause you guys believe in a lot more government than I.

What do you think of this; we should make self mutilation a felony punishable by 10 years in prison. That would "stop" people from cutting themselves

Aside from a herd mentality - if people have left and don't wish to come back it gives looters free reign to rob shops, houses etc etc. What are people going to do - sit at home and watch day time TV as their roof is ripped off.
Those same people will be the first to ask for a government hand out once it's all over.

Even storm chasers know to maintain a safe distance, and get the hell of town if it becomes too dangerous.

    No. Out of their homes.

I didn't realise health and safety was 'liberal'.

Big government is Liberal, and if you believe that it's okay for the military to police the populace, that's big government. I was in NY during the blackout (I think it was '02.) No body was looting or robbing stores and I was in a mall in NY.

People on the left tend to believe we "need" government to keep us in line. Sure, to some degree we all agree theft, rape and, murder are bad and need to be stopped (Sometimes) with lethal force.

But can the government protect you from yourself? No..

    Natural disasters?? No...

Can the government stop everyone with malicious intent? Maybe, but if that were so, the whole country would be under Martial Law, and the REAL VICTIM would be the people.

That is to say, that government CAN'T protect us without imposing on our Liberty, and Martial Law is a HUGE unyielding opposition to freedom.

StpLSD25: To be honest, I've not read any decent articles where it talks about places such as New Jersey being under 'Martial Law'.
I've read about road blocks, curefews and the national guard helping with distributing supplies and manning road blocks (not even storm-chasers would crash through).

I'm taking the OP's and your word for it 'martial law' has been inacted.
If it has, I thought it was so relief funds could be freed up.

Oh, I'm sorry to say this to you again, but you are a bit of a drama queen.
    Jeez...

I suspect there was little looting because it was well managed, and people were able to stay in their homes etc. I can't remember people being evacuated due to a black out. Hurricanes, unsurprisingly, tend do devastate large area's and displace people.
This surely has to be managed and help given.
    Security, too, if needed.
To me it seems it's about pooling resources in times of need.

I'm going off of this video with the martial law thing. But I think people like you are the drama queens. You act like we need military to protect us from storms and civil unrest? Get a fucking gun like a real American and defend yourself. Yeah, they mentioned "looting" big deal, between all the police in the surrounding cities and states, you can't tell me we NEEDED military to do that job.

The fact is that my government isn't quite like yours and the American Government has NO RIGHT to declare martial law.
