I have a crush on this girl but while I was making small talk with her I realized she had different political views than I do. Should I continue to pursue or should I back off now since I'm not just looking for a physical relationship. Can a couple workout when they have different political beliefs? Cause politics cuts directly into money issues in a house/apartment/family/romantic budget.
James Carville and his wife make it work. Her maturity level as well as yours come very much into play in relationships like that, and even if it fails, it will be a great experience in learning to accept people with different views from your own. Don't look for reasons it will fail, look for ways to make it work.
You should probably have a clear idea in your head of what represents a 'deal breaker' for you. Nothing HAS to be a problem unless it doesn't work for one of you.
Well, let's put it this way, in South Africa, differing political beliefs isn't half as much a deal breaker as is different favourite Rugby teams. I Western Cape Stormers fan will never be able to get along with a Gauteng Blue Bulls fan. But some people actually manage to make relationships like that work. I say, unless you are both fanatical, you'd be fine. If you are fanatical, no matter about what, it is going to cause you problems. Stop being fanatical.
You don't have to agree on everything, and the ability to have adult conversations about your views can be very stimulating indeed. Just try not to let them become arguments.
