Doo Doo Butter Alert! Did a 10g run today with heady nugs. I did 2 seperate 5 gram washes, with 3 plates did a 30-60-90 second wash in the seperate plates and washed each 5 gram run twice in 30-60-90 order. Got back 2.2g of oil so i got 22% return. Id say thats decent, i only filtered with a fine mesh screen but it surprisingly did a good job at filter not much plant material left over, smells the bomb too, cant wait to try it out! Thanks jimmjoe!, heres some more i ran earlier today! Just finished scraping my oil. i did 2-30 second washes, 2-45 second washes, and 2-60 second washes, filtered through a fine mesh stainless steel strainer first, then through a coffee filter/strainer into a small bowl. (Oh ya i used frozen materials) after it was done dripping through the coffee filter i poured the solution onto round pyrex dishes and alternated them on the pancake griddle on a very low heat. About 5-6 hours went by and the oil seemed to be pretty solid so i warmed it back up on the griddle and got to scraping and this is what i got. Im estimating about 0.5g of oil. I used 3.5g of grinded nug (Frozen) and a full 16fl oz of ISO (Frozen). I didnt keep the batches separate i just combined them all together. Heres the results! I've tried giving you tips and advice, cause I have been doing this for longer than you have been alive. , but you just call me annoying. I think you took me the wrong way before, I've been making my own oil for over 30 years dude, so I'm right there with ya. Here's a couple of tips anyway; You know to get a complete extraction of the cannabinoid bearing oils with isopropyl takes about 4 hours with low heat in a refluxing set-up. 20-30 second rinses are only getting you a small fraction of what is there. My suggestion if you want to make the best use of your bud is the following; 1) do the quick rinses like you have been doing, those first washes are pretty good. 2) then take the left overs and set up a low heat refluxing set-up. Essentially you want a set-up so the solvent (iso) evaps, collects and then condenses and runs back into the mix, kind of like a still, but you are refluxing the solvent, not removing it. Let that go for a few hours, then evap off the iso or if you set-up the refluxing apparatus properly you should be able to reclaim about 90% of the iso used. You can set-up a quick and easy one with a round crock pot and flip the lid, put ice in the lid, viola'. When done put a measuring cup or similar inside where the iso drips back in and recollect your iso for next time This set-up has served me well many times. 3) When it gets down to a sludge type of consistency but still sort of runny, take an amount of good trim that has been powdered, about 2-3 times the weight of sludge you have and mix it in. When it is all mixed up and you have something like brownie batter, spread it out on a sheet and pop it in a low heat oven to finish drying and you will then have what ages ago used to be known as "oil-based hash" It is a good way to get the most out of your material. A couple of other things I have tried with some success have been water washing the weed first to flush some of the water soluble elements out. Also adding some water to the iso will also help. What you want to do is let it evap most of the alcohol off and you will start to notice the water separate, putting it in the freezer for a bit helps a lot. Isopropyl evaporates at around 90-100 degrees, so it will all be gone long before the water. I then soak up or pour off the water that has picked up even more undesirable stuff from the oil. :2thumbsup:
Second set of pics isn't bad at all. Is there a reason you guys prefer doing qwiso to bho? Qwiso just seems like more work for a (generally) somewhat less pure "hash".
i do qwiso because its higher return, i can buy iso right at the drug store (No need to order super refined butane on the internet), no need to make or build an extractor tube, qwiso can be done indoors with proper ventilation. I would like to have a go at BHO but until i can get my hands on some really cheap bud or a bunch of trim im stickin to qwiso, thanks!
