I just made a post saying that I'm thinking about going back on my anti-depression meds (celexa). I've also been wondering if I should maybe try medical marijuana instead. I don't much like taking pills and maybe the mj would work better for me. Does anyone have any experience with using mj as an anti-depressant? Does it work well? I'd also like to know if it will help my anxiety and ocd..or would it be better to just start taking the celexa again?

Rainy ... I 'm a med cannabis user and think it might be a good idea to ask yr question at www.icmag.com

icmag is the best med site I have found.

you could also look at www.hempembassy.net ... an australian site focused on med cannabis. they are the organisation I get my meds from.

but yeah, I 'd give any natural medicine a try before pharmaceuticals.

    cheers Cobber!

itll be different for different people.
for some people weed helps anxiety, and for some it can make it worse.
as for depression, idk what it would do for that as you are just high for an hour or two. unless you smoke throughout the day. so for long term i dont think it would work.

not really any harm in trying though, you never know :)

Not sure about using it as an anti-depressant specifically, however I do know several veterans, including myself, that use medicinal marijuana for PTSD. In the Seattle area, I believe there are quite a few doctors that can help you, and if the dispensaries are any good, they will be able to help you choose the correct strains for your symptoms. Weedmaps.com is a place you can go to to research your area and find doctors that will assist you with info in your area. Hope this helps.

Please opt for the Celexa. If you've been on it before and it's helped, it's a sure thing. Adding weed to your issues could swing them either way.

I can't say I didn't consider it myself, back when I was desperate...but Celexa has curbed my anxiety no end and given me that headspace to think...I can imagine weed could have just added to the problem (I suffered from paranoia as well).

Years ago, when I was in my 20's...I believe I tried every kind of anti-depression medication there was. (I also had good insurance, a good job, and a decent doctor...anyway) From Xanax to tranzene to prozac to some in between. I remember prozac made me literally feel like I was going crazy...on top of being depressed. My ears would ring, I would not be able to sleep for days...not for even a minute...and that was the GOOD part of prozac. No, I didn't continue on it. lol

Anyway, when I QUIT taking all the pills and only smoked weed, the depression leveled out. Seriously. Weed is the best anti-depression medication I ever found...but that is just me. I have a friend that has found the same to be true...and she goes to a psychiatrist currently on a regular basis. When she does not smoke, she is a basket case. Everybody that knows her and everyone in her family like her a LOT better/can deal with her because she appears more sane when she smokes, and she has stated she even likes herself a lot better with weed. But, that is just her.

    Good luck.

If you're not aware of what strains work for you, do not hesitate to ask the people at the dispensary you choose to go to. If they don't help you, try someone else. Lots of different strains, and regardless of what you may hear, it does make a difference.

WEll a gram will last me a week but I love how it will chill me out and just enjoy music and funny stuff which sounds like a good treatment to me.

Thanks for the input everybody. I never much liked smoking, might even say I dislike it, I've only smoked a handful of times though. Just this past year is when I found out that I'm more of an edible person. When I got my license yesterday, I bought some edibles. I'm going to attempt smoking though and I'm going to try to find a strain that would be right for me. Hoping that it does help me..

If smoking bothers you, you may want to look into purchasing a vaporizer. No smoke, only a vapor you inhale, and your meds last longer because you won't use nearly as much.
