Some of you will know I've spent a while recently trying to fight dreadlock misinformation that I believe is the root of most dreadlock discrimination.

These days tattoos and piercings are becoming more and more mainstream and more acceptable - as it should be - because so many people have them and they're pasted all over mainstream media. This has caused most lies and misinformation regarding these body modifications to have been completely debunked. Unfortunately the same cannot be said for dreadlocks.

I cannot believe how widespread the lies are about dreadlocks, and people actually believe them. Some people make out that dreadlocks are incredibly gross, do they not take a minute to think that - "Hmmm if they really that gross, why would people actually choose to have them?"

I've recently taken to twitter, searching out people tweeting about dreadlocks and making sure they're not taken in by the lies or go down the waxxy road. (Feel free to follow me on twitter if you wish - Bubbletonic).

I've created a page/rant/informational called "Dreadlock Truth Now". It's written originally for people wanting dreadlocks and wanting to set their parents / partners minds at ease. But if adapted it and made it into something that can used to inform anyone that there's nothing inherently wrong with dreadlocks - they're as clean or dirty as the people who wear them choose to be, and would be the same whether they had dreads or not.

This is my adapted FAQ: http://lazydreads.blogspot.co.uk/2012/10/dreadlock-truth-now.html

(It's completely relevant to my post topic and it's my one link per thread, but if it's deemed as spam to link out to my blog I will remove the direct link).

It's probably just a drop in the ocean but I think it's better than doing nothing. Discrimination due to a hair cut (or lack there-of) is ridiculous.

    I agree!

It's sad to see other dreadheads discriminate against their own kind too. Thanks for posting this!

I will be checking it out :D

Yea, it's kind of a lame argument, but atleast they know dreads aren't gross.

The only thing gross about dreadlocks are the opinions of the uninformed.

Man I don't have dreadlocks myself but think they're beautiful...It's funny I was at my life -drawing class last night and the female model had dreads...It was really interesting to draw them as I'd never drawn dreads before.

Good, I've had 3 people all tell me that dreadlocks can't be washed. I told them they can and that actually having clean hair helps the locking process! I'm so unsure where the misconceptions come from because some of them are ridiculous! You can't form a valid opinion on misinformation

'dreads are dirty' - so are you, go wash your hair. is my usual response. :D
'you look like a tramp' - takes one to know one. :D
'bet youve got a whole ecosystem up there havent you' (actual thing said to me at college, BY A TUTOR) - errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. yes, yes i have, ive trained them to attack fuckwits.

peoples stupidity knows no bounds. im very good at lowering myself to someones level to make them look and feel evens stupider than they already are. yes its immature, but if you can drag an idiot down with common sense then youre WINNING.

Oh is there a place where the majority of people aren't severely mentally handicapped. There's no excuse other than not thinking before speaking.

Such a place exists. It's got wonderful information on dreads. The people are friendly and the webmaster has typing skills (unlike one other site ;) )

I was talking about the world in general rather than websites. Now I feel I've stumbled into something involving winks and possibly secret handshakes that I don't fully understand.
