But it's so hard 4 me! Eye've tried lot's of time's but eye always 'Acidently' start eatting it again. Does any-1 have tip's!?
Self-control. Simple, but you can't make the switch without it. Or just dig up some really gruesome information on the meat industry, which is actually not hard to find. The more you read about it, the less you'll want to eat meat. Trust me. You could try substitutes also (meatless "meat", veggie burgers, and whatnot) but I can't say I've tried these yet. Hope this works out for you.
i'm with roses, it's all willpower and self control. all you need to think about is that every time you eat a burger you're contributing to the pain and death of animals. peta videos also help a lot.
READ!! when i first started i "slipped up" a few times too.. and ended up crying for days at a time. then i bought the best book ever! being vegetarian for dummies easy to understand explans EVERYTHING i also strated buying vegetarian cookbooks, if i was going to be vegetarian i was going to need to learn how to cook vegetarian. i'll put some excellent links here for you too GOOD LUCK!! http://www.veganessentials.com/ http://vegweb.com/recipes/ http://www.govegan.net/
Those are some great resources! Thank you. I will pick up a copy of that book when I get the chance. I gave up meat just a couple of months ago so I am new to this as well.
Support is helpful. If you don't have any people who support your efforts where you are, you can find some virtual ones on the net like here or other sites and forums. Keep trying and you'll get it, no problem if you fail a few times.
Don't beat yourself up. Even by eating less meat you are helping the animals/environment. When you are really ready to be a veg you will be. There's not much more to it than that. You don't HAVE to define yourself. Make gradual changes if "cold turkey" doesn't work for you. Hee hee hee. Cold turkey. Try the meat alt. listed above. Learn to cook veg. Eat at home more. Don't buy meat... But mostly don't beat yourself up. It's a personal choice that you have to make and when you've fully made it you will be. Saje
meyeght want to spell i right as well. sorry, but it was really bothering me. reaffirm your reasons to yourself why you are becoming vegetarian. if you cant assuredly tell yourself with ease why you want to choose not to eat meat anymore, then maybe its not the best choice for you
Totally agree compassion over killing do a brilliant 'vegetarian starter kit'. Really great booklet of info. You can see it on their website cok.net and/or send for a paper copy. The PETA one is good too. You can get it from goveg.com. They are also sending out free DVDs of their main videos (meet your meat etc) just apply for one from the website, a vegetarian starter kit is included. Good luck, any more questions feel free to ask.
I had some trouble sticking to my veg ways at first as well...for a few months actually. What helped me was to remember that the food, that burger or turkey sandwich is not the issue. The issue is that I dont want to support animal cruelty and torture anymore and it's just that simple. There is a bigger issue that is the entire reason I even made the decision to stop eating meat. Infact I had to tell myself that tonight when I was starving with no food at my place and my parents had invited me over for turkey and all the fixin's. I was really tempted to eat that turkey, especially since when everyone was done, they were throwing away alot. So ya just have to keep on truckin'. After all this time I still have the occasional craving, but it passes and they have been getting less and less every month. This board has also helped me alot, having the support of other kind veggies, as I know no one who doesnt eat meat. Good luck sweetheart!
