    Flower*child,

The movie was so full of Cliche's it bordered on the ridiculous....

But I did enjoy the Second battle of Little Big Horn interlude, until they nailed him from behind :)

I own the whole series and think it has great parts to it. Any movie is gonna have parts that are no good. But overall this was great.

    DejaVoo,

The movie Billy Jack is set in and around a small southwestern town during the hippie movement (a la the 60s early 70s) The white locals (who are clearly racist) are at odds with "Freedom School" a diverse collection of hippies and Indians which was built on the principles of pacifism.

Billy Jack himself is a half-white, half-Indian karate expert who basically kicks the ass out of the local rednecks when they start looking for the shit.

What I remember about the sequel it was pretty hookey--preachy, sanctimonious, not very beleivable.

Billy Jack itself bordered on that at times, but not so much that it obscured the message.

The local rednecks seem like cliches today, but in those times and that local it was all too common.

The real cliche', even for then, was the phoney character of Billy Jack himself.

Crewcut, ex-special forces, martial artist, who also happens to be half indian, and always in the right place at the right time, and all the hippie Freedom School girls sing songs about him and make cow eyes at him, he's total bullshit.

But I still remember 32yrs later that the girls I took to the movie not only cried over Billy Jack at the end, but then started sobbing their way out the theater leaving me still sitting there finishing the popcorn. Giiirrrlllsss!!!

If you think the sequel wasn't so good, you should check out the prequel.
Billy Jack the hero saves sexy girl from an entire biker gang.

    m6m,

Didn't realize there was a prequel.

When push comes to shove I think the best thing about Billy Jack was that kick ass song by the group Coven One Tin Soldier (The Legend of Billy Jack)

    Thanks for reminding me!

That was a memorable song. And, it fit our spirit in those times perfectly.

The prequel was called "Born Losers". The sequels were "The Trial of Billy Jack" and "Billy Jack goes to Washington".

None of these were anywhere near as good as the original.
