I realize hip forums is a predominantly American forum and I should probably stay out of observations about the impending elections...However as someone who has very "Green" politics and is deeply concerned about environmental issues,I thought I should post this.During yesterdays debate between Romney and Obama Green party presidential candidate Jill Stein was arrested outside of the building where the debate was taking place. She was protesting that she should have been taking part in the debate itself, and voiced the now increasingly popular opinion among progressive US commentators that the essentially two party system leaves no alternative for people to vote for,and in a subtle or perhaps not so subtle way is in effect a dictatorship financially backed by the 1 per cent. This arrest of Jill stein was virtually ignored and unreported by mainstream US media. We of course have a similar problem in the UK.

OK... She must have done something stupid then. What did she do? What were the official charges? They wouldn't openly arrest a political candidate for voicing their opinion.. That would be political suicide.. There has to be more to the story than just she was really vocal. She must have done something to get herself arrested.

TPTB are not stupid, and wouldn't open a can of worms that big this close to an election.

    Just sayin...

It would be interesting to know what she did to get arrested.

Exactly... I did a quick google search and nothing... Where did you even hear about this if you are in the UK?

Had to be mainstream media somewhere.... And I can't find the story anywhere, so where did you come across it?

Googler...her and her running mate were arrested for "blocking traffic" trying to get into the debate last night. You would think that there would be at least minor coverage of that.

I totally get and agree with what your point is here bro! I'd rep you on it but HF says I have to spread the love arround. I think all viable canidates should be able to participate in debates not just the Dems and Repubs. Thanks for the post fairlight.

With the new laws in place, (H.R. 347) anybody protesting outside (or inside) of the place where the debate was happening would be arrested... One doesn't need to do something other than protest, hold a sign, state your opinion, etc. in order to be arrested.

Third party canadates just dont do well in American elections . H. Ross Perot , was the last guy to do kinda well , but he had a whole bunch of money http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H_Ross_Perot . I did vote for him , allowing old slick Willy to win . One big problem is there are a lot of people also running . How many other people would invite to the debate ? More that a few and you would have a 3 ring circus . desert rat

But "blocking traffic"... Really... That's really a crime? Then I no a S**TLOAD of slow ass drivers that need to be arrested ASAP!

Particularly the ones that stop on the street to talk to their buddies. You know roll down the windows and stop there and have a discussion while the traffic behind you is piling up... THOSE people should be arrested definitely then! And they HAVE to do this when you really just want to get somewhere.

    Thanks for the vids...

OK, yeah I can see blocking traffic lol... Hmm..

You know, I think she could have probably put a little more thought into it and gotten a better result.

She must have known she could get arrested for doing that, and it really isn't helping her case any. If you can skirt just on the border of breaking the law, you can make more of a statement as the cops can't arrest you, and people see that and will back you up more...

  12. Just watched the video - like her style - peaceful protest should not be an arrestable offence in a democracy!

The democracy flew out the window recently... Bill of rights went right along with it...

Where in hell does she think she is? The nerve. She must not have gotten a copy of the script. It's been around for decades.

Yep.. And the thing is, that peaceful protest was blocking traffic. If she had only "partially" been blocking traffic, they could not have touched her.. So poor planning on someone's part.

Unless they WANTED her to be arrested to prove a point.. Who knows with the political mind games they play these days. Some would say get arrested be a martyr gather support, but this logic is flawed, as if she is arrested she can't very well even be in a seat can she?

Ty is correct about the Bill of Rights and the same goes for the Constitution. It could have been far worse had they been caught with a copy of either of these subversive documents in thier possession................

What rights? What constitution? You traded those in for "safety" and "security" after 9/11. The terrorists really did win that day. They KILLED freedom. Welcome to the NWO people, and they didn't even need to do anything drastic and have a fight on their hands.. The terrorists did it for them.

What an awesome excuse.. Do you want freedom or security? Well of course you want security, you want to be safe.. What? The camera in your bathroom? Your safety citizen. The shit scanner? Again, your safety citizen. Turn on the TV and watch Fearless Leader give speech. TURN IT ON NOW. Good Citizen.. Happiness is rolling over, don't you want to be happy? We know best....

Really doesn't matter to me what she does.
Back in January I did what I have always done- I contact each party registered in the state in which I am voting, and I ask them to send me information on their candidates and their platforms. What are they proposing to do, what are they promising to do and why should I vote for them. hat is their history, their education, their military service (if any). I received contact from only THREE parties- republicans, democrats and socialists. I leave the voting door open to all parties running, because even though I am registered as one particular party, I vote for who I think is the best person. If they don't get me the info, they are off my list. If they want MY vote, they gotta do something for it. Sending me information that I request is an expectation, not a favor. And last I knew, the Green party ain't on my list.

Listen, if you vote, you must communicate. You don't go to a gopher hole and whisper "I wanna be the President of the United States!". Instead, you climb to the tallest tree and you scream it out loud- "I WANNA BE THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES AND THIS IS HOW I CAN DO IT!". If you just whisper to a gopher hole, you get what the Greens are getting- nothing. They won't get elected. Either Obama or Romney will. The Socialists responded too late in the game to make it worth while.

Why ask for the info instead of research it myself? Because I take the info I get and I research it, seeing how valid it is. Any lies or mis-statements, and concealment; their platform, how realistic is it? Stuff like that.

If they want my vote they gotta earn it. I don't vote for free and people expecting them to give out information is really what they should expect to encounter.

And that is what is seriously wrong with our society...

Have you read George Orwell's 1984? Well, we are heading there rather quickly, actually, there is a youtube video where they recorded his final warning to us. So far, we haven't listened, and as such, we are probably not going to be able to stop the NWO from being formed...

Watch for it... I'm thinking it will be soon... Of course, soon could be another 100 years for all I know.

Here's the vid for those interested to see the warning:
