I was surprised when I did a search for "love beads" and nothing turned up actually for "love beads" on the first two pages! So I'm making this post about my love for love beads.

These things are great, traditional hippie garb. I usually make them for myself, but traditionally they are to be made and given away as a symbol of peace and unity.

    These are the traditional style

But I think any string of beads can be "love beads". I have a few strings. One that I picked up on a trip to Jamaica, the lady said they were cocoa beans. I also have a strand that I made out of glass beads that my grandmother gave me from her collection. I've had more over the years but they break.

I found a site where you can receive/request love beads. Either for a $3 donation OR you can just send an envelope. I think I'm going to send an envelope with a $1 in it and a few stray beads of my own.

This is really cool! Thank you for sharing. I could use a few beads for my collection :) haha, I don't know how much more space in my bedroom I can take up with my beads and other crafting supplies before I get yelled at by my fiancee...oh well :)

Back when I was in High School, we had to wear these ID badges on a lanyard. I strung my ID badge onto a string of chunky beads and that was my lanyard. My history teacher used to call them my Happy Beads. Then, one day, while engaged in a philosophical discussion with my Latin Teacher, they broke and scattered all over the place. That is my Love Bead Story.

We had to do that in my high school, but only for a couple years. So I used a big feather boa as a lanyard, & i also strung together a bunch of stuffed animals as a lanyard!

Anyway, I do love love beads. They just make such a great yet simple gesture. I make beads out of paper because it's cheap, fun, and looks really cool :daisy:
