These assholes called my house dozens times, claiming to be with Windows computer support. I've cursed them out the past 4-5 times in a row but they just kept calling and my number is also on the 'do not call list'... Glad to hear some action is being taken.

Mostly an annoyance, some people have been having fun with these calls...

    About Bloody Time!

Although, they can make for some good entertainment sometimes, eh?
I have used a number of answer to reply to their request for remote access...
    1. My tech guy has my computer, he will look after it. It took them several minutes to figure out this one out.
    2. I don't have windows, I only have Mac OS. It still took them sevral minutes for them to figure it out.
    3. (when asked for windows 7) Sorry, I still run windows 95. They had no idea how to work that one out.
    4. My favoured answer. We don't have any computers. They can't even begin to wrap their heads around that idea.

It just gets very frustrating some days, when you answer the phone and get nothing. I will frequently ignore the call if I don't recognize the area code or number. If it's important, they'll leave a message.

Got calls like that, too, although I'm not sure if their company was one of those being shut down.

This guy called me and said there was a virus in my computer. Told me he'd fix it. But I knew he was bluffing mainly because my computer has not been working for a month now. I didn't have time to bring it to the technician because my work keeps me busy. Besides I have my computer at work, too.

So I told the caller I wasn't interested and hung up.

In my case, although I recognized the scammer right away, it's not the same for all. Based on what I read at www.callercenter.com, some scammers sound very professional. They have the right terms and can easily talk you into giving them remote access to your computer or disclosing your credit card information so be very cautious. When you get a call and find it suspicious, hang up. There's no better way to avoid being scammed.

I get calls like that , I think a lot of people do . On many the person has a Indian accent , some are very hard to understand . One started some like this , "its your lucky day windows user " I told him that I use Linux not windows and hung up . http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=dreamstudio I get these spam emails that I have either won the Nigeria lottery or that I need to send money to Nigeria or the F.B.I. will come and arrest me . Most are worded so badly that you can tell that they dont speak English well . desert rat

About bloody time they did something about it... Seems like there's no respect for anyone anymore.. I switched completely off of land lines for this reason and this reason alone.. But now the bloody bastards are calling my cell phone!!!!

Is there no END to this crap? Does telemarketing actually still work anymore? Well I guess the answer to that is "yes" or they wouldn't keep doing it.

Oh, and Canada gives INDIAN companies a fine... Yeah, that's going to work well, they'll just raise the finger in response and say "Who's gonna make us pay?"

So.. I'm confused.. This helps things how exactly? Other than the companies getting fined, what action has been taken? Are they made to pay? Nah, they'll probably call you again next week :p

These SOBs call me once a week.. And for entertainment, I just load up a virtual server (running linux) and toy with them... with fake porn folders and such.. it's a trip when you yell at them for accessing those folders..

Seems like a lot of trouble to go through to mess with them though lol!

Although, if you recorded it I'm sure I'd like to watch it. I just don't have time to do something similar... Although it would be funny lol...

Or have a fake virus lab and when they go in there scream "NO NO NO, WTF are you doing! Do you want to erase the internet?" LOL Wonder what they would say to that....

Been Copping This Crap For Over 2 Years Here In Australia,

And For Most Of That Time I Responded That I Do Not Have A Computer.

Then A Few Months Ago My Favourite Indian Girl "Agnes" Responded By

Saying, Yes You Do, Then She Said It Was Registered To, And Quoted

My FULL Name, What Processer My Puuuter Was Running, And The ID

    Number Of My Puuuuter...:(.

I Would Have To Admit This Invasion Of My Privacy Rattled Me Because

The Only Time I Have Ever Given Out My Full Name Was To Establish

My Internet Account With Telstra Australia.

Nowdays As Soon As "Private Overseas Call" Appears On My Caller ID

I Disconnect The Computer Before I Answer The Call.

Hopefully This Reduces The Chance Of "Agnes" Downloading Something

Nasty, As A Payback For All The Horrible Names I Have Called Her...[IMG].

    Cheers Glen.

Yes, the amount of personal information floating around that we thought was "private" can be found pretty easily nowadays :(

Thing is most of it is free, but hell, if I want to know bad enough I can pay a small fee and get everything on you, government records, what internet you use, your bank movements, and even how often you take a dump :/

Privacy in the digital age is mostly an illusion. However, there are a few things you can do to protect yourself. For example, I almost always get most service contracts in my middle name (which is not illegal, it's still a legally binding contract and people are stuck looking up my middle name which doesn't come up as easily)

Also, you can try and stay off places like FaceBook, MySPace etc etc...

However, Telemarketers, Scammers, and of course Poll people, will always be able to track you down if they really really want to :/
