Let's talk about the meaning of "The End" by The Doors

Seriously, like Morrison was some kind of prophet or some shit?

Sounds like fucked up rambling to me, I doubt even Morrison had any idea what it was supposed to mean.

Maybe it is just a bunch of nonsensical bullshit so that people would ponder the deep significance of his prose and all the while he sat back laughing.

You know what I remember most vividly from the 60's.........

the nightly newscast showing the bodies being sent home or combat footage from Vietnam. They didn't hide the war from TV like they do now.
That's what I remember the most about the 60's and the thing you kids most often never even contemplate about it.

I had an uncle who was a DJ at a major denver radio station, in '69 he gave me a big stack of "cut-outs" (promo records with one corner cut off the jacket ) 'The doors' was one of them. ('light my fire' was on the top 40 that year I think) Even as a kid I found the sound murky and dull, even a little creepy... The guitar playing was utterly uninteresting and thats all that really mattered to me at the time so I pretty much stuck with the zep, santana, and hendrix

In terms of style, The End just doesn't sound like a Manson song to me. I've noticed that a lot of Manson's songs are just old folk/bluegrass standards put to new lyrics. And his lyrics at least halfway made sense :mickey:

I would say most of Yes's songs make a hell of a lot more sense than The End.

 

I think the end is about the end of consciousness. The end of everything we know in this world, and the transition into the next.
