Do any of you people remember the sci-fi comedy series Red Dwarf? If so you might want to know that a new series starts on the 4th of October in the evening on Dave.
Wow, with the same actors? They must all be pretty old by now....I remember watching that series when I was a kid. Might have to check it out!
Yes with the same actors...The promo looked good and they don't look to old...I think it's gonna be good.
I've been watching the series - on Dave - over the last 3-4 weekends. For some reason they played the series from 8-1 rather than 1-8. Anyhoo, on the whole, they have been funny (I watched them first time around - but memories fade ). Especially the earlier series (yes, I know that's a cliche). I thought Rimmers obsession with aliens in the 1-2 series was really funny. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YskhRbGPt2k"]Aliens - YouTube The characters have definitely changed over the 8 series. Rimmer was portrayed as a little dumb to begin with - but his I.Q seems to have doubled since then. I hope that remains. I also hope the cat remains as self obsessed as he always was. I wasn't 100% impressed with the new trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R7opdzX_4kE"]Red Dwarf X Trailer 2012 - YouTube - it seemed like a bit of a reboot. I guess they want to appeal to new viewers while trying to retain the old. Less than a minute isn't enough to judge too much, though. Oh, and they are all 50 +
I hope they revisit the original theme. That was proper good. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rzjee-Ugqc"]RED DWARF SERIES ONE INTRO - YouTube
Bought the series upto eight, and there was a special made a year or two back which we got, dissapointing - time to throw in the towel lads.
Okay so it may not be as good as it used to but then I'm easily pleased...I still think it's better than a lot of crap shown on TV...I have a low laughter threshold so I will enjoy the new series.
One good thing is that they are going to be 40 minutes episodes. That means atleast 30 minutes of RD - the rest adverts. I was dreading it was going to be 30 minutes - with barely 20 minutes of RD.
It was ok. I did not like the use of the word 'twat' - and It lacked a little energy. But it wasn't a complete failure.
I think it will improve. It takes a lot for any programme to make me go 'wow'. A running gag about shopping channels? really? > <
I quite liked the "twat" bit, just because it's an insult we didn't usually hear. It's like in Father Ted, I'm sure there's a single instance in one episode where someone uses "fuck" instead of "feck", and the fact that it's a single instance of the word that's used just that once and never again makes it special. It's not the use of the word itself that made it funny; it's more the shock value, but it's not shock value just intended for shock value. If that makes sense. I'd be surprised if it does.
The fact that you've picked out that word and felt the need to express disapproval about it seems baffling to me.
