I'm trying to not do that with the soaps... I have a habit of throwing lots of remedies at a problem all at once and then I can never figure out which one actually worked.
As far as what kind of soap to use I would think the more squared the edges the better I think Ivory is used by the most people who get good results.
I swapped from Dial to Ivory last night. I can report that Ivory does not make the good bedfellow that Dial does, lol. Those squared edges are not as nice as the rounded edges. That being said, Ivory kept the leg cramps away as well as Dial did. I will give the Ivory a few more nights and then I think I'll try Dove and report back.
It is strange and it works for lots of people as evidenced by an internet search. I wonder if something similar in size would work...like a pack of playing cards.
There could also be something chemical but I am not sure. Why not try it and see maybe it would work. I do think the reason it works has something to do with shape and size. SO you would have to keep the cards in the box it came in or at least something that would hold the shape I think. I have heard people say that they did change the soap after a few months. I don't know if it is because it wears down or looses it's effectiveness. If it looses effectiveness it could be because the chemicals in the soap break down over time or because it looses it's shape and size. I have never thought to try it myself because I do not have RLS or cramping in the night. But I know enough people who do it and have read what others have said about enough to be interested in find out or theorizing about why it works.
What about just washing your bed sheets in soap instead of detergent and not using "fabric softener" in the rinse cycle. (fabric softener removes detergents, that's how it works)
I don't know... I think for the time being I won't do anything different except maybe add a bar of soap to the upper part of the bed.
I just ran across this article with a guy making soap scented pain patches...pretty interesting. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3004545/
this is a hoax...it was started by someone that lived with someone [wife] that had incredibly stinky feet and they[husband] were at a loss as to how to approach the problem so they said ''put a bar of soap by your feet at night because i read that it will help with your[wife] restless legs''
Lots Of Leg Cramps Here In The Last Month, Nearly Always Associated With Mild Nightmares.... All The Nightmares End In A Sequence Where I Am Kicking Something Or Someone, Then I Wake Up Hopefully In Time To Stretch Out My Leg And Minimise The Damage.... Cheers Glen.
I hope you will try the soap bar, Glen. Leg cramps that give you nightmares have to be twice as troubling.
Update on using the bar of soap in the bed to ward of leg cramps - I removed the bar of soap from the bed about 10 days ago. I had a few minor leg cramps the past couple of nights; then, last night - The mother of all leg cramps!!! Bar of soap in back in the bed.
