You'd have to tame the military/industrial complex first and with China starting to raise it's ugly head in that department there's little chance of that.

Sort of... I agree with George Carlin... "The earth will be fine... The people on the other hand..."

I also stated the same thing under the thread "What was I thinking?" The world will carry on with or without mankind. However, what I believe I was saying with this topic, is the collapse of the American government which can only end 1 of 2 ways, (and they're mutually exclusive.)

Either the people will take control of America, or a world government will control America.

not entirely correct, sure the governments are totally responsible for the current situation that has been building up in america now for several years, but there are still some americans who still have this attitude that america (the country) is the super power of the world, and still believe that america is the greatest nation on this planet, and they are just living in a total fantasy.

sure many americans want their government to stop butting into the affairs of other nations and to stop this rediculous spending on space research, and spend the cash to help look after their own people, but how come the american governments was able to carry on like this for so long until it was too late, the writing has been on the wall for years, the snowball started gaining momentum years ago, and now the reality has just hit home on its citizens, and hopefully they (the people) will find a way to deal with it.

and as a final note, with the up coming elections nearing, can the american people actually do something about this mess, or is it too late, i would be interested in hearing your comments.

I can get really close to the earth actually.

You're wrong. There are some people that think they are better than everyone else, but a lot of people (I should think most Americans) of COURSE think the US is the greatest country (or should be, used to be). It's called patriotism, it's real and it isn't about rednecks wearing red, white and blue jumpsuits.

You're wrong again to assume that just because it is election season that we have the ability now, more than ever, to change anything - because a lot of Americans are also becoming disillusioned to the bipartisan puppet show. The ability to change our country is ever-present in how we spend our own dollars and how we act in public.

It's easy for you to sit on the other side of the globe and pass judgment, but we are the ones that have to take 'blame' for the mess that we were extremely vocally opposing in the first place. So don't come in here telling us how it is, because you have no idea - unless of course you have spent a considerable amount of time in the States and share a passion for this land and the amazing diversity of the people. Thank you, have a nice day.

Sure I agree, but this is a small minority of rednecks and people who have been so conditioned by the current system.
Well, we've long stopped paying for NASA. But honestly, I don't mind too much if we spend money on space research. It's the wars I disagree with. At least NASA is doing something productive as opposed to destructive. Actually I think welfare, medicare, obamacare and, social security, are all worse ways to spend our money!!! Why not just donate it to charities that do the same thing? Instead our government creates a new program, (which expands the government,) throws endless money at it, and gets virtually nothing done.

I don't think it will really be too late. A majority of Americans are armed to the teeth. In fact, we have more guns than citizens here in the USA, and many people are just.. waiting.. (But a good third of the country know something big is going to happen.)

no im not wrong, in my post that you quoted from, i said there are SOME americans (not all) who still have this arrogant attitude about america being the greatest nation on earth, regardless of anything.

again, im not wrong, i wasnt "assuming" that because an election is coming up that american people can do something to change the situation your in, i was asking if there was something you people could do to change things, especially with the election coming up (read what i say)

man, this is exactly the response i was expecting from a very small handful of members in this forum.

i have every right as a citizen of the world, to sit here and speak my mind (not pass judgement) on what i see happening in another part of the world, just as americans have done to others in the past, i am not blaming the people of america for the mess they are in, i am asking why something wasnt done about it before now, and we, as global onlookers, do know whats going on there because we can identify the cause of the problem (we are not stupid) and we in australia have seen this economic shit coming for a long time, especially since our aussie $$$ hit parity with the american $$$ and we knew then that the shit was about to happen, we dont need to be financial experts to know it, but we all have a right to speak out about it, and you cant sit there and expect everyone else outside america to say nothing, because now it is the turn of the rest of the world to say something because we are concerned about what you people are going thru.

anyway, all i can say to the american government is that we, the australians, wont be taking any more crap from them, we wont allow our government to do it, we have seen how they have manipulated us, and other world governments in the past, and they now need to be held accountable, and be told to pull their heads in and fix the mess they created in their own back yard.

now, as my final point before signing off from this thread for good, if you dont like outsiders coming in here and speaking their mind, then you are as arrogant as the government you live under.

You are telling it like how you think it is. You ARE passing judgment on the American people (us on these forums included)

You go from saying how Americans are so self-absorbed/arrogant to saying Australians suffer because of the judgment we pass on them? That doesn't even work if we are so concerned with ourselves.

Wtf does Australia ever do anyways? Last thing I ever read about Australia in the global scope was their small army burning a giant forest of marijuana in Afghanistan (smart) and having to "take a day off" Only judgment I've ever made about Australian people is that they have funny accents and great wildlife shows. Tell me about suffering, man - I'd rather burn at the stake than that! Heavens no!

You are preaching to the choir, buddy - but you are preaching with misinformation and a rather patronizing tone.

I'm telling you that you ARE wrong, because you have absolutely NO firsthand experience with the "arrogant" and "mess-creating" Americans.

    Kindly, go fuck yourself.

And as far as "can we do anything with the elections coming up?" - It doesn't work like that. This is what I'm talking about, you don't know how it is.

Now now GAP and PurpByThePound. We all have to admit things are weird in America now. The people here in America are worried. I know for sure that more and more people want us to stay out of other countries business and are against the wars.

Some people are trying to work for peace thru the political process it is hard because the money people don't want peace and they are the ones who own the media and we all know the media controls the minds of the masses.

I hope with all my heart that we can stop the wars and stay free without a bloody fight. I am pretty sure there are people willing to fight. I am pretty sure the only reason the people have not been turned on is because America has not given up it's 2nd amendment right to bear arms. I have heard that the UK has given this right up I know for sure the Brits had and I think the Aussies did too. SO us Americans need to hang on to the 2nd amendment here is a video on the UK giving up their weapons

That's easy. We're brainwashed. Corporations spend a lot of ca$h to get into our heads. ---24/7 programming, all spin all the time.
We're told it's socialist. We've been programmed to believe anything even hinting of socialism is bad bad bad. It's in the bible. God hates socialists.
    We're exceptional you know…
Can you believe no one went to jail? Since the media hasn't brought this to our attention we don't think about it.
The only thing that can come from a corporate funded election is a corporate agenda. no?

The illegitimate corporate person must die if real persons are to live freely.

having a government funded medicare health system has nothing to do with socialism, in america, you have health insurance, or nothing.

in australia, and other countries like canada we have medicare, cuba has a similar free system as well, we also have private health insurance if the individual prefers it, but it makes no difference, either way, every person in australia gets treated by a doctor, or has treatment in hospital free of charge, regardless what the condition is, and it works because we all pay for it from a 1.5% surcharge in our taxes, and the whole world understands the system, they know it works, nobody gets turned away from a doctor surgery or hospital just because they have no insurance, nor cash to pay for it.

we just dont understand what is it about this system that the american government doesnt understand ???

i expected someone to make a comment like that sooner or later, and this is exactly why "we" get the impression that "some" american people come across as rude and outright arrogant towards all other peoples, because you sir, still think america is this great and wonderful country and you cant accept being put down by some little aussie bleeder like me, because you think we are not as good as you.

dont you come in here and insult me, and other australians like you just did, and then tell me to fuck off :(

contrary to what you might want to think or believe, we do know what you lot are going thru, thats all we ever hear about over here, its global news, and whether you like it or not, you need to accept that others do know whats going on, and we do know how it all happened.

its people like you, making comments like that, that sometimes make me want to say "you know what, i really dont care" but you know what, i am not like that, i just dont care about people like you, all the other "nice" americans i do care about, and i do hope that they can get thru this mess, but lord knows how when you have such a rotten government who has totally lost the plot.

at least we saw the holes in the system in america, and now have systems in place in our laws that will prevent a lot of the very things you people are going thru from happening here, and maybe, just maybe, your government should take a bloody good look around them for once, and learn by their mistakes, even if they have to learn from a pidly irrelevant country like australia.

absolutely lovely, coming from someone like you, now grow up and get over yourself.

The winged keel created by Ben Lexcen was famously used by Australia IIin the 1983 Americas Cupto beat america for the very first time :)
didnt england, new zealand and switzerland all win the america's cup as well ???

our prime minister at the time (bob hawke) shouted out on tv that day saying "any boss who sacks any worker for not turning up for work today is a bum"
one of the best moments in sporting history.

It was a joke, dude. I'm not discounting Australia for being a country...I'm just saying that for you to make opinions about Americans and 'Why don't we just DO SOMETHING about all this?' and that 'We are all arrogant' is asinine. Clearly shows you have no idea how it is over here and that it isn't worth me reading your posts.

Really, you don't get it, otherwise you wouldn't be posting shit that I would relate to a 4th graders "We should just hold hands and say we are sorry" comments. America fucking blows, but we are still Murica and yeah, we ARE fucking awesome. Just a bunch of bloated fatheads have been steering our country for way too long.

It's a bit more complicated than just going out and protesting like an 'aussie bleeder' - we get arrested and shot at for doing things like that.

Hell last month I got arrested, thrown onto the back of a cop car, assumed to be on drugs, and searched (without consent or being read my rights) because I had yelled at two guys fighting to stop fighting. (Naive on my part, but the point being I didn't do anything) Then the officer that took my ID "lost it". This is common occurrence in the States, dude. You don't get it.

It's called GREED - our politics are rife with it. We suffer the sickness that Cortez's conquistadors suffered...it's a sickness of the heart and the only cure is gold. It's not an issue that we can just stand up and voice opinions about. We are put under surveillance. We are ID'd and tracked. Our retinas scanned. Fingerprints taken. They log us where we are with Facebook. We are on the brink of being RFID chipped. This is real. This is America. I am American, and you just don't get it.

certainly didnt read as a joke to me, i heard the tone in your voice.

m8, i didnt say "why dont you people do something" i asked "is there anything you people can do" given the up coming election, i just asked a question because i wasnt sure.

also, regarding the media coverage about the plight of the american economy, and the state of the health care system, you have no idea what the media is like outside your country, and i will guarentee many other aussies in this forum will back me up here when i say that the plight of america is out there in the world media for all to see, we see it on tv day in and day out m8, we are bombarded with it all the time, and regardless of what you think, we DO know all about it, we DO know how it happened, and we also know that that its gunna get worse before it gets better, that much you guys i think will admit is already a fact of life.

you can thank a wonderful american film maker called "Michael Moore" for bringing the american plight to the world stage, i certainly had no idea how the mess was created until i watched "Sick" (about your horendous health system) and another movie called "Capitalism - A Love Story" about how your country is now in the diabolical economic state that it is in now, so i applaud this guy, he is a bloody genius, but many tried to shyt him down for what he did, and for what he continues to do now, without people like him, we, as outsiders would never know the truth.

also, im not stupid, at no time did i ever say "all" americans are arrogant, i said there are "some" who are, and its true, and you came across as being one of those because of the comments you made in your post further up the page, then you topped it off by telling me to go "fuck myself"

m8, im not talking about all this stuff you guys have to put up with, australia has similar problems in law enforcement, but who doesnt, but everything that i have been referring to in this thread is in regards to the horrid financial mess that america is in right now, and what we see as a rotten health system you guys have over there, and yes, we know how it works, because there are americans living in australia (my sister in law included) who absolutely love the system we have here in australia, and all would never want to return to america because life for them here is just wonderful, and i can assure you that my sister in law hates going back home with her kids for even a holiday to see her family, and im not joking.

so on that note, i think enough has been said, and im not here to make enemies.

It's called sarcasm, and it's hard to read into words if you are tight-assed about everything.

I don't watch American news media for one thing...and just because you get a news ticker about what our military is doing in the world, does not mean you know how it is to live here under it. Like I said, you have NO IDEA.

You think that I am lumped into the arrogant and mindless mass that make up the problem? You can't be further from the truth. Yeah, go fuck yourself!! Because frankly I take your words as much more insulting.

You aren't an enemy, you're just babbling about shit that has no precedence. "Why can't America have healthcare? Australia does it!! CUBA does it!" Shit like that...You. Have. No. Clue.

in your previous post you accused me of saying certain things about americans that was not correct, and i just had to clarify those points for you in my last post, just to clear that up, and i am referring to your financial problems, and nothing else.

its not your fault that you dont have such a wonderful healthcare system m8, its your governments fault, just like its their fault you guys have been financially screwed over.

i wont bother responding any more, you just dont seem to get it.

    end of rant...cheers
