Why do they never have the actual movie soundtracks when you see people in a TV show at the movie theater watching a certain movie? For example, in That 70s Show when they go to the movies to see Star Wars they have crappy blaster sounds and a weird song that obviously wasn't from the movie. I was talking about this with my boyfriend and he insists it wasn't because they couldn't get the rights for a soundtrack song solely because they used costumes from the movie later on in the show for the Star Wars fantasy episode. Anyone know?
maybe it's copyrighted, so it's cheaper to just make your own sounds sounding different enough to avoid getting sued.. i dunno lol
That's the thing though. I'm asking why would they be able to use licensed costumes but not the soundtrack?
Cause you can buy a costume, then it belongs to you. You can't really buy the star wars soundtrack... I mean you probably could, but it would cost a shitload of money. They probably decided it wasn't worth it for just one scene.
I dont get why they wouldnt just give the soundtracks away free anyways.. it's advertisement! spreading around your movie..
They can't even sing "Happy Birthday" on tv without paying royalties. I have the first season of WKRP in Cincinnati on dvd and all of the music had to be changed because of that. Even Jennifer's doorbell.
Nobody buys a soundtrack until after they've seen the movie. So that doesn't work well as an advertizement. Copyright for the Star Wars stuff may also be tied into John Williams and his contract.
Because then no one would make money, thus defeating the purpose of even making the soundtrack/music in the first place.
its like the radio stations...they have to pay for each song they play movies are the same..unless its public domain
