It's hard to say the optimal number of dreads from an individual... I myself have 70ish locks. Over the course of maturity, your locks will shorten and fatten, then lengthen and thin out as they mature. Everyone has a different number of hairs on their head and different thickness of hair. If I had 30 dreads they would be about the size of a north american quarter or a Canadian loonie(one dollar). Right now mine range from 1/2 the size of a pencil to just a little bigger then a quarter... I like the variety, only down side of thick locks is the length of time they take to dry after washing. On avg. it takes about 8 hours to air dry my hair. Im sorry but i dont know for sure if a braid would be thicker then a dread, but thinking about it once mature I think it would be about the same size...

950 $ is really a lot of money!!!! BUT think about the real meaning(s) of the dreadlock in wich culture you prefer (some want dreads because of Rasta motivations, some others have dreads for spiritual purpouse like the hinduist jatta, maybe there is some more culture..) and tell me if it is a good thing to pay to have dreads...
