I have one of these puppies sitting in my garage Looks similar but a little different. Its a Holdsworth (don't ask) but I found out from this crazy bike enthusiast that its worth between $750-$1200. I guess its a British bike that is very rare to find in America. MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY!
^^ My dad had a bike just like that one when I was little, but it was brown. It was so tall and the seat was really hard. Crushed my little nether-region anytime I tried to ride it. Hmm... Maybe that's why I can't get my wife pregnant...
My univega viva touring Paid like a dollar fifty for it when I was a little kid. I think my dad helped me rebuild the bottom bracket, and it has expensive ass 27" tires on it because they're non-standard now. Other than that, about the same as when I bought it. Has all original everything, aside from bar-tape.
hehe thats why they invented the "safety bicycle" as we know it today Holdsworth, cool! A classic British brand, I think they were renowned for their intricate lugwork on the frames. Is it Reynolds 531 tubing? Dig the downtube gear levers, old school :2thumbsup: here's my current roadbike: I should really get out on it, my brother puts me to shame, he rides about 100 miles a week
Two things, First, I was at Good Will about a month ago and saw a bike with these on them: http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/aa91/stevenjpratt/P5040225.jpg I had never seen a bike like this before, shoulda bought it but it looked kinda beat. Second, when we were young, back in '64, '65, choppers and custom cars were big on the West Coast, so we tried to imitate them. Of course we had no money or welders, or stuff like that. So we'd take old 24" bikes and hack saw off the front forks then jam them onto the bottom of the forks of another old 24" bike, thus creating an extended front end. Then we'd put a 19" wheel, or what ever small wheel we could find on the front and a regular 24" on the back. Next we'd raid a junk yard for car steering wheels, throw away the handle bars and attach the steering wheel, can't remember how. Toss the front fender and bob or eliminate the back, finally we'd try to add a sissy bar out of what ever we could find...TA-DA...a chopper!
A friend just gave me his bike like this: I like it because its bloooooo But, I got it to use on the trails down the street...they require a mountain bike and he told me he loved using this down trails. I have a simpler standard bike that I use for my street biking...although I didn't get a chance to go all summer since its outta commission
i have a bike, but the tire randomly popped while it was sitting unattended in my kitchen (the noise scared the hell out of me until i figured out what it was) and i've been procrastinating getting it fixed pretty much all summer.
I never had either of these, but as a kid in the seventies, if you were cool you had a Grifter: ... and if you were REALLY cool, you had a Raleigh Chopper :
I had a yellow 1970s Mongoose with Motomag rims when I was a kid, like this one: Until it was stolen.
