Haha...well take your time...I can understand you're busy...plus it's probably good for me cause your old posts didn't allow me to concentrate on anythinggg
here's my confession: i hate baseball, and think its pointless to watch anymore after the whole steroids thing happened. i mean the whole sport is destroyed. so many crazy records need asterisks, and barry bonds is a bitchass
I started actively and aggressively chasing men at age 14. If anyone imagines I was being exploited by them they've got the wrong end of the stick.
I don't really agree with this...the age-old argument is kind of true. People have been finding ways to "cheat" for decades. If it wasn't steroids, it was something else. I agree that finding athletes with good character is excellent, but don't dismiss the game because a ton of the athletes do steroids. If anything, I suppose it levels the playing field? I agree with you that the cleaner you can make a game, the more we see an athlete for what he or she really is. But nonetheless, I still enjoy watching professional sports, regardless of what they do on their own time.
well what about all the records that were broken by roid heads? to me that totally ruins mlb. babe ruth would turn over in his grave
Not really, the thought of fit Australian Rules Footballers in tight shorts turns this fairy on no end. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Back onto the subject of team sports. Some years ago I worked for the committee of an Australian Football team. It wasn't just the steroids that finally turned me off the game. I witnessed a discussion between the club president and the club doctor at half time. MD. "I think Bazza has a fractured collar bone. We should think about taking him off." Pres' "Stuff that, hit him up with morph & coke and send him back out. We've got six figures riding on winning this one mate." The club doctor did as instructed & the player broke his collar bone in 2 places & they lost. End of my devotion to Australian Rules Football.
I agree with you that definitely today's athletes have a completely different advantage. They're bigger and stronger, healthier, and in general people are taller and more robust today than earlier in the 1900's. And add on top of that, steroid use, and it's no contest really in terms of records/performance. I completely agree that it's not "fair" so to speak. But don't you think even Ruth - and any fiercely-competitive athlete for that matter - would have tried to gain his own advantages, be it with a slightly different bat weight, or different bat dimensions, etc. I think games are constantly evolving - and to call one era fair and another not - is not completely accurate. It's all relative in my opinion. I'm not too much into baseball and I know steroid use is most associated with that. But even in football, hockey, or basketball, I'm sure the athletes I really respect must be doing something to gain an advantage on the competition. It's that drive to do whatever it takes that gets these athletes to the top - and I think it drives them to these measure as well. It's too bad, but as someone who is involved in the medical world - I can tell you that there is a ton of controversy as to what steroids even does for an athlete anyway. We may find out in another 10 years after more research that maybe it actually harms an athlete's abilities as opposed to helping. Who knows. Good confession though. I feel absolved for some reason.
What??? Are you serious, Quiet? You should know better than that by now. I never forget about it...I was just multi-tasking...
you're terrible! you're supposed to encourage me to think about other things. Why are you promoting my bad habits?
If wining in itself was the only reason for taking steroids it would be a relatively meaningless triumph as it's the drugs winning, not the athlete themselves. What complicates this, and I suggest is the major reason anyone takes the risk of using performance enhancing drugs, is sponsorship. Think about it. You may know you didn't win the 200 metres freestyle at the Olympics by yourself but you sure as hell won't reject a juicy sponsorship deal such 'successes' induce. Someone once said you can't eat a gold medal. Wrong, these days you can.
Hmm...I disagree with this one. It's such a pessimistic view of athletes. Do you really think they take steroids for the hope of more money down the line because of potential sponsorships? I don't know. I like to think that these athletes have a lot of drive and have always been incredibly successful. And in an arena where everyday you're getting older compared to the up and coming new competition, they do everything they can to give themselves the edge to remain the winning and prideful athletes that they are. I think it goes way beyond money. I think it's the culture of professional athletes, and their pride for wanting to be the best they can. Maybe that's a very naive view. But I like to err on the side of optimism.
As with so many debates the truth is often neither black or white. My 'pessimism' and your ' optimism' can both be true but of different athletes.
well i believe there are diff reasons for taking steroids by baseball players. 1.it was condoned by the clubs but had to be kept under wraps. if we let you do it, do it 2.to get better stats for better contracts 3.winning it all 4.to get more viewers interested in baseball, have to admit football was really starting to dominate as the most popular sport. which football is #1 in the usa right now i think it is wrong and unsportsmanlike to cheat and take steroids or human growth hormones. it ruined the record books, as well as the integrity of the sport. ok confession: when i sell my jewelry outside, i have a sign to catch ppl's attention. make them laugh, and its memorable. it reads: support your local hippies. trust me i get a lot of laughs
Haha...I like your sign...and I agree with all your points - but I think records were made to be broken.
