BUSH WAS BETTER THAN OBAMA!!!!!!!!! Negates pretty much all of the previous rambling. No need to reply on my part--Jamgrassphan has it down cold, baby.
Okay, and I'll be happy to answer those questions, from my viewpoint. I can certainly see how it would appear that way, but the world is in an economic crisis, and I think the last thing your government, my government or, any other government, should do is spend more. It is my opinion that the dollar is collapsing, (Although it's in a bubble right now,) and we're going to be able to take a dollar, or a pound, and wipe our ass with it, because it will be virtually worthless. So therefore, I don't see spending more to be the solution, I think we need to live within our means. I do believe in a degree of deregulation, because the regulations on businesses have gotten so stupid, that they're literally busting little girls lemonade stands down! What's more American than little girls selling lemonade? Well everyone is completely entitled to their opinion, as we live in a free country. I don't think everyone who believes in communism, socialism or, anarchy is ill-willed. But I do believe in the right to bear arms, to protect one from tyranny. In one way, we're all on the same side; we know what we have isn't working. Many people are just not aware of the phrase "Military Industrial complex," so they just blame Bush and the republicans. Now republicans are typically associated with the southern states of America, cause they have more freedom. So they hunt and what-have-you. Blue states (like New York,) have much stricter gun laws, you can't go into walmart and buy a gun. I'm not a republican, I'm a libertarian. Well, I think true capitalism is the ability for one to advance in life. For children to make a better life than their fathers. The ability to contribute something, and be able to reap the fruits of your labor. This is a completely valid argument. However, it is my opinion, that charities are already out there, serving that very purpose. When I was living with my ex we got foodstamps, but you can also go to a lot of churches on nearly any day of the week and get all the food you will need. When people are prosperous, many times they want to share, and they do that through charities and other country-wide forms of help. You can still get free housing in New York, (From Churches!) I don't feel like our country is as bad off as people think!! Well this is the redistribution of wealth, which I essentially disagree with. But if I could redistribute wealth; I would take all the money from the Rothechilds and Rockefellers, as they are Zoinists who take part in the Bilderberg meetings. I would take the TARP money back from the banks, and I would redistribute it evenly among every citizen over 18. I like how you used the word "context." What I mean by freedom and liberty, is partially the constitution, Our freedom of speech, our rights to own weapons, our rights against unreasonable searches and seizures and what-have-you. But my definition goes further than that, I think we need to end the war on drugs as it is a waste of our tax money, people are now switching to RC which are typically more dangerous. With a sensible drug policy, not only will it be controlled and take the violence away, people would know what they are getting so it's not rat poison or something. I also think Bradley Manning is a patriot and a hero, and he should be released immediately. New York has one of the longest extending crime scenes in America. It's obvious that there's always corrupt politicians. I'm sure they we're taking bribes from the Italian mafia, and every other wealthy criminal in the city. That's cool about the french, I didn't know that before. I will read after I post this. But I know manufacturing is going down, I know that people are virtually bankrupt and looking for work. But I think the cause of that was a relatively small group of investment bankers and wealthy elitist. The 1% is sucking up everyone elses money under a fake capitalist system that gives them control of the interest rates and resources.
Obama took 3 extra years to end the war in Iraq, and in the meantime he made a ragime chance in Libya. Now he put sanctions on Iran (A much bigger country than Iraq,) who have no nuclear weapons, and impose no threat to our national security. I'm completely opposed to the wars too. But that's what it is, WARS. We're in a lot more countries than you're probably aware of, because our presence in the middle east is helping Wall Street executes, and Obama is reaping the rewards from them and the praise of many. It's not between the two candidates. If you're suggesting I forgot 9/11 you are mistaken. Bush was just an idiot, alcoholic who came from a corrupt family (who had ties to big oil and the Bin Laden family,) and he was pushed by Cheney to go into war. He was put into power directly from the military industrial complex. But (believe it or not,) Obama is a part of that too. But Obama knows what he's doing, he's moving towards a global governance, which will take away all human rights. He signs unmoral bills that put you and I in jepordy of the federal government spying on protesters, and calling them "domestic enemies." There is really so much wrong with Obama, because he completely lied to the people, and he was elected under false pretenses of him being a "peace keeper," there has been no peace, only more American/Isreali interventionism!!
I'd like you to watch the following video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=o8R5GvwUFU8 I think that too many people trust this guy. Listen to how corrupt his spokespeople even are. They get threatening if you ask too many questions. Obama doesn't give a shit about you or me, it is a pipe-dream. Obama just says stuff he knows we want to hear, and he doesn't even write his own speeches. The guy's an actor.
Listen, I understand this whole NWO/zionist conspiracy thing, and there are aspects of Obama's foreign and domestic policy that trouble me. But there are aspects of rightwing agenda that frankly, keep me awake at night. I want you to imagine the following scenario. You were just elected President of the United States. Your predecessor deliberately conspired with the banking/financial cartel to leave the country in economic ruin, knowing full well that four years (or ten years) would not be enough time to repair the damage. You've vowed to keep your campaign promises, but the big men in the pentagon sit down with you on your first day in the oval office and essentially tell you "you've got a choice - you either go along with our imiperialistic global oil grab (because the fact is there's a whole helluva of alot less oil left in Saudi Arabia and elsewhere in the middle-east and the world than we want people to know, and if they did know - frankly it would probably lead to WWIII) and go along with our program, of securing the world's last oil reserves and positioning the U.S. as the "responsible" overlords of what oil is left in the world or you can try to tell the people the truth, and we'll make sure that some wacko assassinates you, just like we did JFK, and trust me, we've already seen to it that Joe Biden will go along with our program. Go along with our program and we'll hand you Osama Bin Laden. Re-appoint Ben Bernanke and turn a blind eye to the Federal Reserve and we'll see to it that you get a second term. In exchange, we'll give you some wiggle room with domestic policy, so you can accomplish some of that bleeding heart liberal reform (just don't get too carried away.) The choice is yours, though we admit it's not much of a choice. You can take the moral high ground and tell the truth about the impending energy crisis and destabilize the entire planet, which will likely result in another world war and unimaginable death tolls (mostly brown and black people), or you can go along with our plan of buying a little more time until we get this shit figured out." So, being an altruistic man, you, Mr. President - decide that it's better to not be assassinated and to prevent World War III than to reveal to the world, who is really in charge. And maybe, while you're buying yourself some time, you might figure out a way to actually make some meaningful changes from the inside. I don't know exactly when this nation was usurped by the banking cartel, I suspect it happened on Jekyll Island about 100 years ago, but I want you to understand that if you're going to bother to vote, it's better to vote for a President who at least pays lip service to the kind of nation that you'd like to call your own. "We need to do some nation builidng here at home", "We need to grow the nation from the middle out, not from the top and expect it to trickle down" LIp service like this, if for no other reason than to remind the people who are really in charge, what our vision for this country really is. Afterall, and in the grand scheme of things, it really is up to us to determine the fate of this nation - that is, if we don't allow ourselves to become completely powerless through our own apathy.
You and I see eye-to-eye, except on Obama. Even if Obama came into office on any type of moral high grounds, (and that's arguable,) he sure has a funny way of doing stuff "for the people." I shouldn't even have to get into ObamaCare, because most Liberals forget Romney wrote the bill titled "RomneyCare," a blueprint for what Obama recently passed nationwide, so if you worry about the republican agenda, I would certainly watch ObamaCare. But back to moral high grounds okay? In the above mentioned analogy; I would by ALL and EVERY means, fight the NWO. I know it's different when you're in a life threatening situation. But my friend, I am too caring and considerate to make a dollar while everyone else is being robbed. I would feel guilty everyday that I were still alive, yet millions of civilians were dead, along with thousands of our own soldiers. I actually do have a moral code. Another point is, if Obama cared about the people, wouldn't he let us petition our country, as has always been a "human right," in our country? Well, if Obama cares about human rights why would he allow for a bill like HR347, which makes it a felony to protest in the presence of secret service?? Obama's just living the good life, tired of OWS protesters bickering about "God knows what." Nevermind that there is a growing unemployment rate in this country, he's employed by the special interests and even more special, BRIBES. This man has no allegiance to the people. He's a black version of Mitt Romney. Even Barrack Obama and Paul Ryan discuss how similar they are. It's honestly all staged; Politicians are like professional wrestlers, "I'm gonna rip this guy's head off!" then they're all buddy-buddy behind the scenes. If Obama cared about the people, we would be able to scream what's wrong with our government, in his presence or not!!!
I want you to imagine the Occupy protests under Bush. I honestly am not trying to get you to change your opinion of Obama. I think in large part you're right. But I also want you to see that the Bush regime may very well have ruined this country, and that it certainly sent it on our present course. Now maybe democracy has become a farce in this country (maybe it always was), but I urge you to vote, because it does matter. Because when you vote, it sends a message, it's a litmus test and it shows that you are, in fact, paying attention. Afterall, it must take a helluva lot of trouble to create the illusion of democracy - imagine what this country would be like if they thought we were so disillusioned that we didn't care to vote. Write Anonymous on the ballot if that's what moves you, but vote.
Do I live in the only state where write in candidates are not an option on the presidential ballot? And where third party candidates never make it on the ballot? I have no idea what you guys are talking about when you say to write someone in, or to vote for Gary Johnson. In my state we literally have to choose between the lesser of two evils. I've proudly voted in every presidential election since I turned 18 but I'm not sure I see a point this year.
You can usually hit "Other," and write in your candidate. But there's a few states that doesn't, and that don't have third party candidates on the ballots.
Gary Johnson has my vote this election year! 3rd party for Liberty - Libertarian. We may have a limited choice, but we still have the right to choose...
Wow great posts. Lots of good points. I agree with LSD25 on alot of his ideas. Let the revolution begin!
I guess I'm one of the few states that doesn't. I probably won't be voting, because the thing about voting for the "lesser of two evils" - as a voter, you're responsible for your vote and your candidate, and all your candidate's faults, even if he/she is "less" evil than the other guy.
Yes, let's just not vote at all, because we don't like either of the partisan candidates for U.S. President, never mind the legislative branch 44 elections this year, not important. Only 56.8 percent of U.S. citizens voted in 2008. My feeling is, if you don't choose the lesser of two evils, you've essentially cast your vote for the more evil, you've also sent a message to the people who would like nothing better than to completely do away with this messy voting stuff that you agree with nearly half the people in this country, that democracy is really just a big pain in the ass.
My feeling is that both Obama and Romney support policies I strongly disagree with and I'm not going to voice my approval for either candidate or their policies in the name of supporting this farce you refer to as a democracy. Ill gladly vote for a third party and ill gladly write in when given a choice, but voting Democrat or Republican when I support neither party only sends the message that I support a corrupt and outdated two party system. edit: I just wanted to add that I think its more effective to vote with your dollar. For example, one reason I refuse to vote for Obama is that he continues to support the revolving door of business and government, namely his appointment of previous Monsanto employee Michael Taylor to Deputy Commissioner of the FDA. Our nation's food supply is one of the most important issues to me personally. This is the one thing (well, in addition to his infringement on civil liberties) that tipped the scales for me and made me realize I can't, under any circumstances, continue to support Obama (I did vote for him in 2008). And I can't vote for Romney for obvious reasons. So what's a girl to do? For starters, buy local food rather than GM food from the supermarket. I think supporting local farmers is a fine way to shoot big business and the government a big fat middle finger -much more effective than casting a completely meaningless vote. Another issue - I don't support sending jobs to China. I have no doubt Romney would give big tax breaks to his business buddies and I'm sure many of his buddies cut corners and increase profit by outsourcing. So I shop at thrift stores and I buy local when I can afford it. The dollar is God in America. We need to stop fooling ourselves with this "your vote is the very foundation of this fine democracy we live in," nonsense. Its not. For one, its not a true democracy, and secondly, voting is meaningless. Which politicians get the power, get the vote? The best candidate? Hardly. Its almost always the candidate with the most campaign money. The one that gladly accepts campaign donations from industries that could easily go bankrupt if only Americans would stop buying from them. The dollar is the foundation. The dollar is our God. This is unfortunate and this is what leads to corruption but it also gives us, the consumer, all the power in the world if only we would put our money where it deserves to go. In my opinion, if you really want to keep the most evil candidate out of office you should start by researching where his donations come from and then make a deliberate effort to avoid giving those businesses your dollar.
While both parties are bought and paid for, I agree, I can't at this point understand people who think there aren't A: Major policy differences, and B: Serious repercussions for presidential elections. I'll address B first. When I was 15 and the 2000 elections were going on, I couldn't vote, but my rhetorical support went behind Harry Browne, the Libertarian candidate, my political philosophy has changed a bit, but be that as it may, the 8 years which followed, decided by the Supreme Court, changed my opinion. And by far the strongest and most enduring power of the president are the lifetime supreme court appointments, which will affect policy for the next 40 years. We're one vote away from Roe V Wade being removed, one vote that let police give everyone body cavity searches, that Arizona can make their own immigration law, unlimited corporate donations to political elections, and again, they selected a president in '00. There are dozens of differences on point A. I could name them, but I'm sure you're aware. And fundamentally I'm an anarchist. I believe the best outcome for the US is inevitable collapse, and a drastic shake up of our system. But in the mean time, I remember the Bush years. When they appointed their equestrian buddies to head FEMA and played golf as Katrina was approaching, and large full scale invasions... Oh the Bush years.
(~_~) yes the executive powers towards appointments is serious business. With a Romney/Ryan win you would have that final one vote to overturn roe v wade and make arizona a very racialy segregated state and they wouldnt need cavity searches they will have hd body scanners. So are you saying that if she cant vote for a 3rd party she should bite the bullet and vote Democrat? I applaud her response cause she is fighting her own battle. I'm a libertarian so my vote and beliefs are focused in that spectrum. Yes I voted for Obama even though I knew better but that dam hope and change speech he made moved me. I really wanted to believe. My bad, I'm four years wiser now.
I don't personally think roe vs Wade will ever be overturned. I think it's simply a wedge issue used in every election to divide the people and create an illusion of difference. Maybe I'm wrong. I could be wrong. I was pretty passionate about politics during the bush years. I know exactly what you're saying, lode. But I still feel like it's just one big farce and I can't really take it seriously anymore. So ill vote with my dollar.
