I ate a leftover pot brownie last night - and something really awful happened. My boyfriend, who took care of me, told me afterwards he'd never seen anything like it from pot.

It began when I was eating, and I was looking at the fork in my hand, and I wasn't really sure what it was for. When it got really bad, I didn't know who my boyfriend was, or what I was. I lay down an buried my face in my hands and started crying horribly from this really awful feeling of depair. I was really terrified, and several times I was overwhelmed by some kind of overpowering fear. The other thing was that I felt like I had only just come into existance. I kept saying to my boyfriend "I know you" once I realized that I did know him. (Kind of funny - I recognized him by his beard, so he made hold onto it. It helped) I kept asking "Do you know me?" But I kept forgetting who he was. I also had a very hard time using language - I felt like I was going to lose the abilty to use it. At one point I thought I was going to die. I was really scared; several times I started hyperventilating. I thought I was really losing my mind, and that I would never get back to my normal self. I was really terrified.

Besides the feelings of fear and despair, the other thing that characterized this experience, espicially at the beginning, was that I couldn't tell *what* I was - not who but what. The part of me that makes sense of everthing was gone.

Has anybody ever encountered this? I have only been smoking for about 6 months. I weigh 135. Other people ate the brownies at this party and even the experienced smoker were like "this is intense stuff". (I've been wondring whether the problem is a resulf of too much chemical or is it something else)

I would really appreciate any input anybody can give me.

that's really weird. you say you've only been smoking for 6 mo; how often do you smoke? it could just be that you're inexperienced and it hit you a lot harder than you expected. i've seen ppl have near panic attacks after eating too much and in an uncomfortable setting.

I remember a long time ago I found half a pot brownie in my bro's room. I didn't even know it had weed in it, I just ate it thinking it was a delicous snack. Then about a hour later at my friends b-day party I starting freaking out thinking I was crazy then I realized it was probably a pot brownie and relaxed a bit. Scary though, being on drugs and not even knowing it.

that's quite a trip. it doesn't sound like pot at all - more like a bad mushroom trip. sometimes pot does strange and unpredictable things like that. you have to be careful eating it, because you can take way too much and not know until it's too late. don't get too worried, though - i don't know anyone who's never had a bad episode with pot. my brother, after smoking several joints with some friends, stood up to leave and got a completely out-of-control headrush that nearly knocked him out. after he stood up his vision started to get fuzzy and he couldn't hear anything or move his legs. everything went white and he thought he was never going to come back to earth. it lasted under a minute and then he came out of it, but he couldn't get up for a while afterward because it'd come back.

i also had a friend, a relatively new smoker, who had 3 tokes of some particularly potent bud and got so high she could barely stand. she was twitching so badly her epileptic boyfriend thought she was having a seizure. it lasted hours.

i ate a bowl of pot chili and a few pot cookies once and soon found myself obsessing over germs, hearing footsteps and voices and seeing little flashes of intruders in my (empty) house, and twitching and shaking and feeling cold. i ended up spending 4 hours huddled on my bed, hiding from my own house and the imaginary presences i was feeling. it sucked. i just took way too much.

just be really careful about dose and monitor your reaction to pot. it happens to everyone.

Yeah you have to be careful with weed when you eat it. Everyone thinks of weed as a safe, light drug, but it's been used for heavy shamanic purposes for a long time, usually by eating it. It can have some major effects sometimes. I don't know why sometimes it does, and other times doesn't, get real serious like you described, must be many factors deciding what kind of experience you'll have.

    Hi Everybody,

Thanks for your input. After I came down my boyfriend said it was like a bad mushroom trip.

I'm still a bit freaked out about how freaked out I was. I wonder what that says about my mental make-up. I did a bit of research on line and found that although there is little research on what makes people have a bad trip - researchers couldn't find a link between peoples mental make-up and bad trips. Some people think that if you are prone to anxiety or panic, that's what could set off bad trips.

It was pretty awful. I kept saying to my bf "I can't ever do this again" but now I feel like the kid who got bested by a bully, and got his second wind of bravery - I wanna go and kick the bad-trip-monster's ass. (I mean, I want to face it again, and not have a bad trip - find out how to go with it, and maybe even confront whatever it is that still has me so scared. I have trouble writing and facing some things because of a milder version of the same thing)

Pot can be REALLY powerful. Too powerful. I've been smoking every day for a while, and one day, I took ONE hit of a bong, one hit that happened to be the biggest hit of my life. Thereafter, I proceded to taste music and experience my hands melting through the counter and my pants. Scared the hell out of me. It wasn't laced, pot can be overwhelming. After a came down I looked back and thought about how cool it was... now that I was fine and sober. Whenever I get close to being that high from then on, I never let it scare me, I just get into it. That's the key.

Amen! Not to belittle your trip, because we've all had freak outs, but once you've experienced that level of intoxication you know what to expect kinda. What you described sounds a lot like a bad salvia trip... the whole "losing your body" and stuff. I once tripped and had to relinquish control of my body (like my mental conciousness left my understanding of my body, felt like my "soul" leaving my body), it was intense. After that happened though, the next time, instead of fighting it and being scared I just let go and it was amazing.

Don't let it get you down, but make sure you know your weed isn't laced, because that's a potential problem too...

Thats insane... I've been smoking probably half a year now, never had that bad a high. I think that its more likely to be bad if it hits you all at once, like eating a ton, half hour later getting knocked with it, as opposed to smoking which even big hits, it forces you to pace yourself somewhat, so it builds rather than hitting at once. Least thats my theory.

^^ true on the above posts by foppful and volatile; like I said, people treat weed too lightly sometimes. It can be a powerful drug, and people forget or ignore that, thinking it's only good for making you sit around, like your music more, and eat a lot. Granted it IS good for that, but it can be a whole hell of a lot more than that too.

so - anybody have any idea why some people are able to "go with it" even when it gets real weird, and why others get freaked out? Do you think its a weakness in your personality/ego makeup, or do you think that its from if you are stressed out and have a lot of negative things on your mind?

So you had a bad trip once, then after that you were ok?
