Does anyone out there consider themselves to be "Multi-Talented"? I find that a lot of people I see on the forums who play music do art and writing as well.It kind of goes with the territory. What is your experience of being multi-talented?My first experience with creating was visual art.At school I was the "Art" guy.I used to draw pictures for the girls and this was the only thing I was really interested in.Then I got in to reading big time and started to write poetry. At this stage I had no problems with switching between art and writing. As I got later into my teens I got really into music after someone gave me a clutch of vinyl lps - stuff by Pink Floyd,Santana,Van Morrison,John Martyn and Joan Armatrading. It was a logical progression for me then to get into playing guitar,so one happy Christmas my Mum got me a Spanish guitar, and this was the start of a whole new adventure. At this point I still had no problem switching between my "talents".Everything flowed together and I just did what I wanted when I felt like it,with no pre-conceived notions hampering my creativity.I started to write song lyrics and songs on the guitar and my poetry evolved into this.It was only many years later that things got problematic.I started to get "Stuck" between my talents - I didn't know what to do anymore,I would get "Blocked".This led to many years of procrastination and time-wasting.It is only really in the past year that things are starting to come together and flow again.I am hoping to make videos for my music, and this will give expression to all sides of my creativity - my music side,my visual side and my poetic side.I just wanted to share this and see if any of you had had similar experiences. Thanks for reading.
I'm glad things are moving again! Sometimes when your mind thinks that it is "blocked" because you're having a little bit of difficulty with the creative juices your subconscious decides that that is where your at and voila! your stuck in some kind of mental block shit! Onwards and upwards my friend
I have phases where I am stuck, also. I write, sing, and craft. And I get stuck with all 3 of those things. Just recently, I started writing again. My next step is to get a guitar to start singing again and learn the guitar. I craft on and off depending on what I get my hands on to revamp or what kinds of decorations my house could use
It took lot of self-discipline and will-power to become "Unstuck".Also a willingness to accept it all as part of the process when things aren't going well - to live with the mess or the "dischord",if you like. Also to learn to "play" again,to wait for the "happy accident".Also to realize that within re-engaging with creativity, sometimes you have to learn to accept what/where you are today and forget about what you used to be...Also working with other people can help.It is not always easy to get this opportunity, but it certainly helps.
I've just got out of my 'stuck' phase and gotten back into doing stuff. I mainly paint using oil paint on canvas but sometimes use other paint too, rarely on anything other than canvas.. I'm in the middle of one now I also write poetry and sing. For some reason I've never mixed the three, I very occasionally write a poem tgen kind of paint using the poem as my base, but that's only been a few times and never really that successful because I think I try too hard.. usually I don't have to be in any kind of mood other than having a random urge to do something, like tonight I was bored so decided to paint, chose a base colour and worked from there, no ideas or inspiration etc, just pure randomness.
Crisis intervention, security for the Dead & the Airplane, potterty, martial arts......errr cat herding.....I was going to say writing but errrrr.......
I can relate with you. It started out with me drawing crazy abstract surreal insane drawings, so much that teachers would recognize my talent and ask me to draw stuff for them. Later I got paint sets from a family member, and began messing with that. Painting became my new passion. I began to read about painters, and their lives, and that brought me to a better understanding of what I'd like to do, not only with my art, but as a career. I tried my hand at writing poetry and got extra credit in English classes, but writing stories has always been more appealing. I am at the point where I like to draw and paint, and mess around with instruments. The next step for me is to further my education in math and mechanics as well as creative design. My goal is to do everything from basic construction, to operating things like cranes, to structural design. Hopefully all while making my name in art.
mutlti talented my hand got many talents , guitar awesome position memory i can't forget and music became so easy to me . http://soundcloud.com/jeremiedeschenes/blues I have also art pencil talent I do my art spontatinous and my hand take all the right descion. I really love to explore the talent of my hand . hahah
i can put my hand to a few things... but yeah finishing is a major problem. i'm my own worst critic i guess.
try to over come this problem by learning trics sometime i just focus on the draw but sometimes i just add music, or i smoke a cigs but when i end up im so happy but all you let your hand work and you relax if you make mistake you dont worry about perfection so your mostly chilling and you dont want to end up you love to chill on your draw or others things.. guitar is sweet because it create you feeling and those feeling can be insane with blues you have to create a passion to make things strong and get insane feeling at they end of a work ! good luck
nice good to hear your stories continue to develop your talent I love your type of work they are really awesome and unique , Thanks for sharing
