I dont mean what are his theory's about. i know also that we learned a lot about space and time from him. but I am talking about physical things, what was something that made our lives better that we know wouldnt be invented if he was never born. (i know he was asked about the hydrogen bomb and possibly that wouldnt have been invented but I wouldnt say it made our lives better)
This is probably not what you were looking for but both of my parents have memories of seeing Einstein when Dad was going to Princeton. My dad was looking at a picture at an art exhibit and Einstein came up and stood next to him. My mother saw him while sitting on the grass near a river (?) Mom and my two older sisters, who were playing, were on the grass and Einstein went by in a rowboat. He saw Mom and the girls on the grass and he waved and smiled at them as he went down the river. (I was in the womb at the time.) Mom died of Alzheimer's in 2008 but this is one of the mental pictures of her life that I still cherish.
The idea that matter is nothing more than condensed energy... this changed everything. It change science view of the universe, it effected the technological development of everything from healthcare to warfare. There's a TV movie called "Einstein's Big Idea". I recommend watching it. It's not only about Einstein but other scientists that were working on electricity and splitting atoms. I read this series on aidmypath that discuss Einstein's contribution. It was very clear from the analysis that Einstein made a bold move on relativity and solve many problems in one shot.
Thank you relaxxxx, i just watched that whole movie lol. good stuff, tho I knew all of the physics mentioned, I never really understood why in E=mc^2, that c was squared. It didn't quite explain it exactly, but got me enough info to placate myself. Also, the historical bits were really good too.
^ the c^2 term comes from the classical mechanics expression for energy, E= mV^2, with c as the limiting case for V. the proof is in vector calculus on Riemannian spaces. drop a few hits and you might get it lol
When I first started thinking about the formula, it seemed like it was wrong. That it should be m=Ec^2. But it's all in the definition of E. I was thinking energy in terms of light rays and such. E in the formula is physical energy, already incorporated into matter. A photon of energy only has a very tiny mass potential.

:rofl: Op, for one thing, Einsteins relativity theory made global satellite positioning possible. sorry, don't have time for a more in-depth explanation but... Time moves slower the farther out in space you are, (relative to earth) so in order for those orbiting satellites to transmit accurate triangulation info they must be calibrated to have a (very slightly) longer second than we experience here on earth.
Other way around; time slows down during acceleration/in a gravitational field, so time goes slightly faster in space than on earth. Einstein's contributions to science are not as quickly applicable as a better lightbulb. We won't even begin truly using what he discovered for many decades to come.

he also provided the theoretical framework for lasers, which are just about everywhere; survey equipment, manufacturing processes, fiber-optic networks, CD/DVD/Blu-Ray, measuring how far away the moon is, heating things to enormously high temperatures, cooling things to absurdly low temperatures (within a few billionths of a degree to 0 Kelvin), minimally invasive surgery, the list goes on.
