About a year ago I started stuttering. I had dropped out of school due to illness and spent months on end alone in my house and didn't say 5 words each day. After I got better, I was under a lot of stress and the stuttering really became an issue. It has become worse over the past 6 months to the point where I can barely talk to people. I used to be rather eloquent, if a little shy. A lot of crazy, stressful things have happened to me over the past year but I seem to be happy enough. I have some social anxiety but I feel like if I didn't stutter I wouldn't have so much. Have you ever heard of a person just randomly starting to stutter as an adult? I physically can't pronounce words with more than one or two syllables and I use quite a few long words as a habit. I'm constantly trying to think of shorter synonyms that I can pronounce during every conversation. Most speech therapists around here only see kids. I'm trying to see a normal therapist about social anxiety but they refuse to see me because they think I'm looking for help about stuttering. Has anyone here stopped stuttering on their own? Any advice? Tips?

Weird fact-Oddly enough I don't stutter when I speak French.

    Thank you. :)

I think they have a treatment for this where you cover your ears so you can't hear yourself talk

EFT Tapping can work. I like Brad Yates. You might need to search around his videos for one that addresses your needs but there is an example below.

You also might want to research EFT tapping so you understand the technique.

Thanks for the replies. Does anyone know if stuttering is all psychological or not? It feels like I physically can't pronounce some words anymore no matter how relaxed I am otherwise.

The psyche controls everything, so Yeah I'd say this could be more psychological than physical. If there were a physical problem with speaking it wouldn't come as a stutter, more of an inability to speak at all, inability to control the tongue or the mouth so everything is illegible. That type of thing...

You said that you were under stress when this started, something hit you really hard psychically and you may, or may not, know what that was... But I bet that is the root cause of this stuttering.

Don't be so hard on your self bro.I have this same problem and it gets pretty bad sometimes, like I feel like others around me think I might be retarded, but my stutter really just comes and goes. You just might have build up trama from some instance you've seen or been though and its coming out, either find your root cause and come to terms with yourself ,or ignore it and just come to accept that you might sound f**ked up every now and then ,but dont beat your self up over it .

I am no doctor and have not examined anything except your post, but this does sound psychological, given you can speak french without stuttering, you have suffered a great deal of stress and anxiety lately (which can cause speech impediments), and you went a long time without speaking much.

I think you need to retrain your brain to speak english eloquently. I developed a slight stutter as well the last few years after some stressful times. It's very slight but enough that I can notice it. I recommend practicing and training english. Speak more. You're only going to get worse hiding your english voice.

i know when i was doing alot of acid and mushrooms i developed a bad stuttering problem, so bad that i pretty much couldnt even say the word 'the' but it went away after i slowed on the drugs. but i did learn one thing from it learn from it, instead of talking because i barely could i stayed quite and just listened alot, you'll learn alot just staying back and listening to others
