    Snow White and the Huntsman
    Movie Blurb by Shale

This movie is one of those retellings of a classic fairy tale collected by the Grimm Brothers. If you've seen the trailers as I did, you might be drawn to the real-life look of this fable, set in Medieval Europe and loosely based on the familiar children's story.

The story opens with a beautiful queen and king who have a daughter. The queen dies and eventually the king remarries a most beautiful royal that he has rescued. She offs the king on their wedding bed and takes over the realm as Queen Ravenna (Charlize Theron). You know the vain, evil stepmother queen who asks her mirror, mirror on the wall who's the fairest of them all. Modern movie magic gives new life to the magical talking mirror.

Evil Queen puts Snow White (Kristen Stewart) in a dungeon but she eventually escapes and runs into the Dark Forest to hide.

The Evil Queen, a bit of a witch, (yeah that's spelled right) needs to eat Snow White's heart to stay young and beautiful so she sends a huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) who is familiar with the Dark Forest to bring her back.

Of course you know he switches sides and they run off further into the forest and are captured by dwarves, who eventually join forces with them against the evil queen. All the elements of the original fairy tale are touched on here, including evil queen magically getting Snow White to eat a poisoned apple and die (somewhat, like in Twilight) and a kiss reviving her.

I liked the movie except for one scene where the dwarves walk them thru the Faerie Forest where we see fur covered snakes, butterflies, flowers too many cute, cuddly furry animals and of course genderless, naked faeries. It was all too cute and completely out of style with the real movie that had played to that point. That whole scene coulda been left on the cutting room floor (and if I get the DVD will go thru at 32X).

Other than that I enjoyed the re-telling of a magical story with an element of real action.

Sounds a bit too confusing, Thor is the Huntsman and Bella is Snow White, its too soon after their other movie successes.

Reminds me off when I saw Terminator 4, Christian Bale was Batman, then 6 months later he is John Conner??? They can do other roles, but not iconic ones so quickly

Yeah, there are parallels here as well.

I didn't mention in my blurb that there was another guy in Snow White's life, a childhood royal friend, Prince William (Sam Claflin) who along with the Huntsman is out to protect her.

And both the prince and the huntsman are potential love interests, sorta like the Jake & Edward & Bella triangle.

I found this movie enjoyable but I felt the plot and characters were underdeveloped. I got the impression that the directors/producers wanted the film to have an epic Lord of the Rings like quality to it but didn't want to take a chance of really developing the characters and background story and slowing the film down. I really enjoyed Charlize Theron's performance tho.

    How was Kristen Stewart's acting?

I saw the first Twilight, don't make fun of me...and I think that girl is an awful actress. I also thought she sucked in Into the Wild, although her role was limited...

yet I've been reading interviews lately in which her costars and directors sing her praises like she's brilliant, like she's the next goddamn Meryl Streep or something...

    Am I missing something here?

This movie intrigues me but I'm not interested in paying the admission price to see her blank stare plastered on the screen the whole time.

i have yet to see this one. it's had middling reviews so far, and yet the premise is still an intriguing one to me. it certainly looks amazing from all the promotional stuff i've seen. whether or not it has a soul to it will be another thing though. i think i'll see it when it releases on dvd, and decide for myself then.

I have yet to see this movie, but have been wanting to since I have seen the previews for it. I love Disney movies, so am always interested to see the modern takes on them... so whether I'll be disappointed or not, I will probably see all of the similar movies that come out :)

I also wanted to see this movie, but my husband can't stand Kristen Stewart. He says he won't ever pay for a movie that she plays in.
I wanted to see it because of Charlize Theron.

Kristen Stewart totally ruined it. She is a horrendous actress. Maybe if she had spent less time sleeping with the director and more time developing the character it would have been better.
I enjoyed it apart from her, though.
