Hey guys/girls, I recently started some work that requires footwear. Not because it's frowned upon to be barefoot etc but because I need to protect my soles from metal shavings. Anyway long story short I was recommended by a friend of mine who does a lot of rock climbing a pair of sandals that felt and moved like I was still barefoot made by Teva called the Zilch. I like many others am always dubious about these supposed 'barefoot' shoes, however I must say they are in my oppinion fantastic! A little expensive but for my only shoes I didnt mind that much. They are comfortable, flex in all directions and are so light and skinny they do feel like a protected foot rather than a shoe. I thought that being a 'hardcore' barefooter I might share this as probably my only positive shoe experience to date. much love Madesh
i say this as a barefooter....in my opinion you cant just go barefoot if you are at work and need that job..besides i work in a warehouse and i wouldnt recomend even open toed shoes yet alone being barefoot in there...
Being at work sucks in every sense. Complete waste of life working for the man. Not being bf is top of a list of 100 reasons why this is so. Makes me:bigcry:
hey Madesh! Those sandals are great, the only shame is that you had to spend money on footwear xxx :sunny:
The Zilch sandals look pretty nice, and price isn't too bad considering the cost of other Teva offerings. I just wish they had a third strap going across the toes instead of that one strap over the big toe. I prefer no straps between any of my toes, personally.
I have found that the Vibram Five-Finger Shoes are a fairly good substitute for total barefoot. For most working conditions, they would provide good protection from metal shavings, etc. and also help protect the top of the foot. I have a couple pairs and I love them. Not too great for snow/ice, but otherwise no problems. They wouldn't be considered safety shoes, but they would provide some protection.
I have a pair but rather hate them for anything other than if it's too cold or too hot to run/walk barefoot. Otherwise my feet sweat like crazy inside them. I'd rather just be BF.
Yeah I tried five-fingers but didnt like them due to not only being hot but also they constricted my feet and made them sore around all the hard skin areas, I suppose for me it was kinda like I imagine wearing two pairs of shoes at the same time!
They are awesome. I did find one problem that would not go away, though, and that is the front top strap (over the top of the foot) rubbing against the skin, causing sores over time. After some time of trying to find a workaround, I cleanly sliced off that entire strap, leaving just the toe hold and ankle strap and it works perfect.
I generally wear socks with them myself, otherwise, my feet sweat too much. And then they will start to small after a couple of days of wear, even though I will change foot wear every day. Most other shoes I have bought, I must wear socks, otherwise it just feels like I am walking around in a pool of slippery slime all day. I live out in the countryside, and I will walk through grass fully bf, but if I have to hit the gravel, it can get very painful, very quick. Though I will do that too, just not often.
