https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cyZlxBu18-c"]OWS being dubbed 'domestic terrorists'? - YouTube I posted this last night but I was fucked up. We all know about this but OWS needs a name change immediately so that the government can't label them as "domestic terrorist" and lock them away. we HAVE to adapt!!!
It's not the name, it's the message they don't like. Seeing as under the circumstance of a Secret Service Agent being present, any protest is illegal, it's a small step to making any protest "terrorism".... Wait for it!

Heartblood of the occupy movement to many. I have brothers/sisters of the heart as well as blood family on the front lines in the Oakland/SF bay area. I hate to see them go down as a result of not knowing family history. As to the man hating hippies I honestly believe it's fear not hate and therefore we must always leave them an honorable exit. Even the smallest rat will fight to the death if scared and cornered.
I find this very disturbing. If this law means what I think it means, protest as we know it may come to an end. If you have the power to arrest people for protesting where Secret Service is present, then any protest can be broken up by sending in Secret Service, protest of the President, VP, etc. is nearly impossible, and we lose our Constitutional right to protest basically. I hope they show their true colors when they abuse this and get caught by the public wiping their ass with our rights.
I am a Canadian, and have only been to the States once. How is life exactly day-to-day in America, is it getting as bad as people say? I have watched videos of the Pittsburgh G20 and Occupy protest police brutality and it is very disturbing
Yeah, it's bad. We have angry activist on both ends of the spectrum, Police brutality and an ever increasing government raising it's presence in the several states, and taking away our liberty, under the guise of "fighting terrorism." I mean, I can't say if it's as bad as you "think," but it is getting really bad. Most people are in complete denial and STILL support Obama.
It certainly is disgusting what the corporate-government does to the world every day. The sad thing is that the majority of the people support bullshit like the War on Drugs and War on Terror. Canada is doing much better than some countries but we're on a slippery slope, especially with our terrible conservative gov't. It seems surreal though, since we've been raised to believe that our countries are "democratic" and "peacekeeping", when in actuallty our democracies are fading quickly
It's very bad, but not the type of bad that makes gunfire and grenades background noise, or anything. It's just a heavy blanket being dropped over free speech, and powerful legal attacks on a fair political system (supreme court just re-affirmed citizens united, in strking down montanas hundred year old law to keep business out of politics). Most of it is just laying ominous fascist groundwork, and continuing the decade-old push to inspire, aid, and then frame as many would-be terrorists as possible, to create an atmosphere of fear and surrender to the safety of the government.
I thought you didn't tolerate tyranny in America... That's what you said in the other thread, hehehh
We don't condone tyranny in America, how's that? But it's illegal to protest around the secret service, but Americans ignored that law during the NATO summit.
Reminder - This discussion needs to stay focused on the Occupy Movement. Take other discussions to another part of the forum.
But isn't this what the Occupy Movement is trying to address, among other important issues? I believe the Occupy Movement needs to have a unified ambassador. One who speaks for the majority of the people in a cogent manner. I think the Americans who don't agree or fully understand what the movement is trying to establish that if there is no distinguished leader they just ignore them as a fringe group. The problem is that they are speaking on very important matters and are being ignored. Part of it is because they are being mistreated by the government and the press, but also because they are talking about key issues that have a long lasting effect that Americans normally will not sit down and discuss with each other. If that is biggest issue you will not overcome it until the mindset changes within this country regardless if the Occupy Movement has a figurehead. However, I do believe it is necessary for the moment to have a figurehead so the masses will at least hear it out. It would be a turning point in the movement so that it is looked at as a legitimate organization.
