Wow, this sounds amazing, I would be interested, as would my close friend. We are early to mid 20's. Great work ethic, love to learn, and know a few essential things here and there. I couldn't find Fritz's profile to message (sorry, I'm new here.) I would love to find out more, and potentially join you!

If you need anything email me! cha0x@yahoo.com

Hello, my name is Scott. I would love to get in touch with someone who can give me some info about this place and if they are still accepting people. I've been longing for a place to connect with the earth with like minded people. Mainstrem society is slowly eating away at my soul. Any help would be greatly appreciated. My email is augustwest73@gmail.com Thank you all :)

Just a friendly reminder to the new batch of potential recruits, I left this "Working farm" in April of 2011.

If you go, have a plan B.
In fact, given the current state of the Economy and the growing numbers of Small Businesses having Hard times, if you go anywhere, have a plan B and watch out for Punk assed Hustlers.

Look, all that I can say is that when I was present there, it didn't have much of a communal feel and there seemed to be a general reluctance towards doing anything to actually improve the situation there but I certainly cant speak for how things may or may not have evolved since I was there but as we haven't heard back from them in a god while in here I'm left to guess along with the rest of you as to what was going on.

I guess the best way to put it is that when I visited, this place had yet to congeal into an actual Community of any sort and was pretty much occupied by a mix of those who were there to accomplish things and develop infrastructure and then there were those who arrived mostly by sheer accident (In a rather literal sense) and wanted to run around, smoke Pot, drink 4 Loco and chase butterflies all day.

The end result being that those involved with any skill or actual know-how basically shut down and went catatonic outside the bare essentials of their duties as it was clear that at that time all that was to be done was run in circles and essentially masturbate as a group in the form of pointless tasks. (Tilling the 80% clay in the main garden just a day before expecting rain "so the *soil* will be ready for planting 2 weeks down the road.

As an example there was talk of fixing the big tractor we could have used to harvest mulch for biochar and soil building (Or even just rocket stove fuel).
The issue was the linkage for the shovel had split at the shoulder and needed a weld but most there thought it would take an act of God to accomplish, "we" sat around for MONTHS moaning about how much trouble it would be to actually get the repair done (With me explaining how brain-dead simple making Thermite really is the whole time but being denied the opportunity by the rightful owner) and when we finally DID take it to a local Guy to do an Arc weld on the piece, it was welded back incorrectly and needed to be bandsawed apart.
I can only imagine how long it took to get around to that "insurmountable task" as I didn't stick around to find out.

Then there was the old pickup which had farm plates, no insurance ad we could barely afford gas for the vehicles and energy we were already using.
The trouble being someone had simply rigged the ignition and managed to bypass the priming circuit for the fuel pump,,, had no money to put fuel in essentially, but rather than simply rig the carb / intake for Methane or Producer gas as a means to spin the old generator with the blown motor ("they" [those there before me] had been neglecting to put oil in most of the equipment that Trying Again ended up being kind enough to replace during his involvement)

And when I attempted to fix the blown motor on the generator and found I'd really need a full rebuild kit (Block included) and that there weren't even any shops around willing to bore the cylinder out or cut the camshaft down it seemed I got looked at by some like I was somehow lacking in skill because I didn't have the $450 in my pocket to pay for the parts and actually perform the repairs.

Trying Again then went and bought another Generator and within the first hour managed to burn out a few Ground wires, so he proceeded to rewire the ENTIRE THING using the wires from the other generator,,,

Were it not for the fact he was dead already, seeing Allen Albert Funt come out from behind a tree at any given moment would not have surprised me one bit.

Dont even ask me about the chainsaws...

I hope for their sake they've managed to iron out their problems, but we haven't heard how things have been going @ Belly Acres in a while.

    :banghead:

But check it out, you may like what it turns into for you. :D

And apparently there's not a similar kind of project in Europe... all in North America... if something will push me to the road one day...it's my stratospheric debts... Captain Jesus...what can i do ?:bang head:

It reminds me a song/single by The Music "Take the long road and walk it" ...not convinced that this is the solution

    Fritz, pretty frustrating experience.

I don't know much about communes, but it seems any social group with a utopian streak ends up having similar problems.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was similar to 90% of the communes out there

Eh', I look back on it as an entertaining exercise in dealing with difficult circumstance without resorting to smashing anything but Trying Again came close on one occasion.

Overall I look at it as a rather Cathartic experience in the end.

I have lived on communes in Humboldt county Calif and wow were they ever lazy.. I busted my butt and as fast as i did they destroyed what i did. Their favorite saying was there's a food stamp office in every town .. myself i have finally learned to stop being the little red hen for others and i have my own one person commune and its going great. No problems and i have gotten a lot built and planted etc etc.. Wensday i start building my barn. In febuary i built a wellhouse and last month i built a loghouse outhouse / shower room. http://directory.ic.org/22661/Central_Pa_Mountain_farm

Looking nice Forget This, Mom looks pretty happy with herself in the photo.

Being a Smoker kind of rules me out for your needs but if I'm ever in your neck of the woods I promise I'll stop in just to cook the two of you some Buckwheat Pancakes on that freaking AWESOME stove of yours. :D
