I wonder why mainstream movies dont show a guys penis yet they show full view of a woman nude. i mean there are a few movies that have showed but still its one of those not very often. I feel if a woman bares her boobs on movies why not a guy showing his penis.

if womens vaginas had some obvious signs or features that showed when she was excited and how deep she was i think you would see less full nude women in movies also.

That's bull they can show an unerect penis and it would have the same effect its because we have been taught to view a woman as more of an object than a man

in a nutshell, its because hollywood is a heteronormative phallocentric institution which fetishises women so that men can indulge their voyeuristic urges and not fear castration.

in a more just and equal society, penises would fill our screens, jiggling and jangling away with gay abandon in glorious high definition, all three dimensions and in fantastic surround sound.

we can but dream, that one day our children's children will grow up in a world where they can go to their local multiplex of an evening, with some change in their pockets and wonder in their hearts, don their 3d goggles and thrill to the sight of a gentleman's unmentionables dancing gaily before them.

    we can but dream.

Likewise, on broadcast television, you'll see an occasional bare male buttocks, but rarely a bare female buttocks, and male chests are much more common than female breasts. Female nudity is acceptable only if it's been paid for.

I feel most people see the penis as something 'graphic", if you know what I mean.

We can't put all the blame on Hollywood - they do try. It is in their best economic interest to give the public what they want.

We can blame the whole puritanical, uptight American culture with its body shame hangups that dictate stupid blue laws and the mindset of the MPAA. This is not some anti-American bias, but can be quantified by comparing movies from here with those out of Europe for my entire lifetime. European movies (particularly French) have shown full frontal male nudity for decades.

Movies run a constant battle with the MPAA, which sets the ARBITRARY ratings by some formula (say 'fuck' once it can be PG-13, say it twice it becomes R)

I recently saw the movie Hit and Run, which is a romantic comedy rated R. It showed several nude ppl including a male penis in a comedy scene when they accidentally opened the wrong motel room where a bunch of nudists were. That is probably why this PG-13 type movie got an R rating.

The actual shot was from the door, showing this dude from the front.

BTW, that production pic shows the guy from behind, not from the front as seen in the movie. If the pic showed him from the front, I could not by the rules on this very liberal board post it here. So, you see how pervasive is the reach of the puritanical rules of mainstream culture.

Another point was that we cannot show female breasts like we do male. This again is not Hollywood but their deference to the mainstream American prudishness. Men, including me routinely walk around outside without a shirt, yet there is a law against women doing the same.

Here on Miami Beach they don't enforce that law on the beaches because of the European and South American women who sunbathe topfree. But that is the exception - most American beaches enforce that, until some activist women take it to court on equal access grounds and win the right to go topfree the same as men. (Rochester NY).

So, there you have the reason you don't see penises in American movies. Until more liberal thinking ppl can counter the mainstream puritanical culture (we did that for a brief moment in the late '60s) we will have to put up with their stupid body shame rules.

Well, I vote for more penises on the big and little screen.....maybe I'd start tuning in more if I knew there was a chance of so really arousing eye candy!!

weeell... yes and no. its in their interest to give the public what they have demonstrated an interest in IN THE PAST, not in their interest to experiment, push boundaries or take risks. So prudishness in the american mainstream isn't necessarily representative of prudishness in American culture, so much as it is Hollywood sticking to a tried and tested formula to make money.
yeah, but this isn't the worst thing the MPAA do. time and time again they've made decisions that can only be described as overtly homophobic or sexist.

-any sex act that is acceptable between a man and a woman is ENTIRELY unnacceptable between people of the same gender
-male masturbation is essentially fine as long as not portrayed too graphically BUT female masturbation, even mildly implied OR DISCUSSED in the film must be removed.
-Woman cannot be allowed to enjoy sex on screen, any lingering shot (or sound) of a female face orgasming must be removed or edited.
-sex scenes to be shot in extreme close up; very difficult to discern what is actually going on. essentially the more people look like indistinguishable hunks of meat the better.

add to this the fact that all these decisions are entirely undemocratic and nontransparent- you aren't even allowed to know who made the decision to leave your film unrated, much less appeal against the decision. the only clue? Jack Valenti, MPAA founder, once said "i can't reveal the identities of the board members, but i can tell you they are all parents, with more than 4 children" thus implying that people with children have a better sense of morality than the rest of the population and should control what they see (also, i'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that i doubt many of those parents are gay couples). its censorship by the back door.

Secondary sex characteristics are different than genitals is why. Plus, you have to admit.....boobs are way more beautiful than a penis. Cocks are best when they're in a pussy.
