I nurse, I'm glad I can and I do it publicly I try to stay 'modestly' covered, but baby hates those stupid nursing capes, so I don't bother. My SIL nursed her baby in a starbucks, discreetly on a cushy chair in the corner. A man sitting close by had the most disgusted look on his face, as if she were taking a crap right there beside him. The baby completely covered her breast, and there weren't even any gulping noises, but the look was pure hatred! Since when did something so natural and healthy become so repulsive? Sure, I can show everyone my ass-crack, or have a shirt so low you can see my areolas..but nurse in public?!? DISGUSTING!! It drives me nuts, and I try to be patient, but sometimes I just want to freak out on those type of people. Does anyone else suffer from ignorant anti-nursers? -Mama
I'm not a mom yet, but I plan to whip it out whenever and wherever I fucking feel like it (or rather, when my baby feels like it). People love to objectify women, and part of that objectification is that society has decided for us that breasts are for sexual purposes only, and thus, shouldn't be used in public, even for a completely non-sexual reason. I would say to them, "God gave me breasts to feed my kids, and he gave you a neck so you can turn your fucking head and look the other way." Nothing brings out my angry feminist side like breastfeeding and childbirth issues. Ugh!
I'm pregnant. I plan to breastfeed but I haven't even thought of how I'll go about breast feeding in public until I read this thread. I'm kind of shy. I go to the bathroom to blow my nose. I can't pee in public bathrooms unless I'm the only one in there. So more than likely if I'm in public and need to feed my child I'll try to find a place where I'm not so out in the open. Simply because I'm shy and I don't want people staring at me. I have no problem with other women breast feeding in public.
Lol! I used to think I was shy too, but believe you me, when you're pregnant, and after you give birth, your body becomes public property. I would have been horrified if my brother or father in law saw me in my bra, now I nurse while talking to them. They don't care, and I certainly don't anymore. Your sensitivity to other's people standard of modesty quite literally disappers. Because you have a baby who's hungry and this baby is more important than anyone else, so you whip it out without even a second thought. Just wait and see.
I don't think all the people would act like that. Some think including me that is very beautiful scene. Many artist favored that theme too.
Well, golly , gee, we should nurse in the bathroom so these guys can keep all boobies as their play toys, and not the functional glands they are. <rolls eyes> Back in the dark old days when I was nursing my son, I was tossed out of a mall. So, I advise being sure you are not in front of a lingerie store before settling in to nurse. Secondly, get a very gauzy light scarf and put YOU under it, too. Kiddo hated. The blanket drape, but I'd I put it over my head, making a tent for us, it was ok by him. That is warm, though, so moving to gauze fixed the mom overheating issue. Eventually, he was happy enough to nurse order gauze without me being under. I suspect it was that he could sort of see through it. I also would find corners where I was facing a wall, so if someone is offended, they want to be...and that is on them.
as a guy i feel there is nothing wrong with a woman breastfeeding in public. target and other stores have told women to use the bathroom its like would you eat your lunch in the bathroom i dont think so. most women that i see breastfeed often have a towel or something to cover but there been times i seen women were the breast is exposed and i dont have a issue with that.
exactly! live and let live. the people who object to public breast feeding are probably the same people who have secret porn obsessions! just sayin'... i've seen many women breast feed in public and it was always very discreet. if i hadn't been sitting as close to them as i was (or have had it pointed out to me), i would never have noticed!
