I'll always love their first album. Seen them twice live, and the songs for some reason dont really translate well live, especially the first album, the songs sound heavy ( well within their genre) on the album, but no where near so much live. Yeah, they kind of suck live. As for Linkin Puke, dont know how anyone can call then metal
umm,, im not saying it'd have to be that style of music dude, and nirvana rocked, i met slipknot once in detroit, but i didnt get to hear them play. but yeah they had some alright songs, but,, they blow metal sucks nowadayz, and its like a re-incarnation of the 80's if you ask me, music might sound different, but same concept.
You are entitled to your opinion about nowadays metal of course but I really am wondering if you are familair with the whole spectrum of metal which is quite broad today. I personally rarely dig metal outside of the subgenres of doom and black metal these days. There is so much other stuff though I doubt that it all sucks. It's just not for me. I appreciate good death metal and grind (core) when I hear it but it's also not really something I'd pick and choose myself. Have to say I also really dig 'classic' heavy metal like I used to, but no new bands in that style. I just really like the old ones. But yeah, that's not today's metal.. Anyway, I could see you'd say it sucks because you've been listening to new bands with the classic 'concept'!
i think what it is,, i think i just hate metal lol, maybe old stuff is alright like black sabbath or whatever. snot was a good band too, look up them (1996 i think, only had 1 album) personally i like punk rock and some other stuff like rhcp or ratm. to me metal has no real message, punk is well awesome. (ok some of it sucks)
Ah yes, punk. I do not really enjoy most punk The Exploited is an exception for sure  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TKhrQhdxjI8"]The Exploited - Sex and Violence - YouTube
They dont translate good live bcus they suck to beging with. Shitknot is the biggest poser band on earth. All there members are terrible even the overrated drummer. Corey cant never b a good unique singer and his range sucks. They have two useless percussioness who arent needed. A dj thats pointless in having him. Two guitar players thats one too many for the diffuculty of the band music. And the drummer isnt special at all. His never brought nothinf new to drumming nor is interesting. Shitknot is your typical trendy poser band.
Nirvana is the reason why rock bands on tv or on a wide commercial scale suck. Nirvana killed rock music as a whole. They made rock anti fun anti cool anti talent. Asking for nirvana to come back is tje stupidiest thing ever....
Well definately pose band in the sense they dont even really need half the instruments, just for show on stage. You didnt mention the keyboard player, him in particular, I could never work out what the fuck he does, he plays samples as well, but its not like you need a guy on stage doing that. But as for keyboard, some of the videos its like he's just playing chopsticks, doesnt look like he's playing much, and there is no way you are going to be able to hear amongst all that other stuff, then on top of that he's probably just following the base guitar anyway As for Corey Taylor, reminds me of the same kind of thing that pisses me off about Hetfield, growling the first couple albums, get popular because of that, but hey, lets not stick to what the fans want, lets then try to sing all sensitive and follow a pretty little melody and try sound like James Blunt
Metal has nothing to do with anything mentioned in this topic. It's an insult to the genre to even imply that Slipknot, and especially Linkin Park, are metal bands. Plenty of metal bands have a message but it seems as though your definition of the genre is way off.
I have to admit, even though I haven't listened to Linkin Park in YEARS, I hold a soft spot for them. They got me through some tough times during my adolescent years. But like I said, I probably haven't listened to them since I was 16-17. Slipknot never phased me either way, though. They make no sense to me...I need music I can make sense of.
If you want some REAL music to empathize with and help you through tough times, listen to Radiohead, Nick Drake, The Doors, or Syd Barrett's solo material. No matter how deep my depression got, that didn't give me an excuse to be listening to garbage. Well, admittedly, I listened to some Linkin Park back in elementary/middle school, but even then, I didn't actually take their music seriously.
And my reaction: LOL wtf? Linkin Park to fight depression??? You've got to be kidding My post was sort of a reaction to lovelyxmalia's post. No offense to her, but that got me thinking about how many of my peers listened to some of the crappiest music to get their frustrations out. And how I've been thinking, well why sacrifice artistic quality and genuine talent when dealing with darker emotions? That's why I said empathize. It's called listening to music by someone that shares the same thoughts and feelings you're going through. Granted, it doesn't always work. It all depends on the mindset and the state you're in. Sometimes it pulls you in deeper and makes things worse, but sometimes it helps you to get through it and feel for the human condition. I don't mean to sound pompous, but I am incredibly experienced with depression, so I know what I'm talking about. I think I actually recall from a long gone thread that you hate Radiohead, so you wouldn't understand anyway. FYI, I'm NOT talking about "Creep". That song is silly compared to masterworks like "Kid A" and "In Rainbows". Oh, and let's please not turn this into a long drawn-out argument. REALLY not asking for that sort of thing right now.
everyone's music is better than everyone else's, eh? and what is the topic of discussion here? if it is linkin park, then here's my input: they gained popularity when i was in... uuuhhh... the 9th grade, i think. at that point in my life, i listened to the standard 90's alt fare (pumpkins, weezer, really commercial shite) and hip hop (eminem, master p, three six, etc.). given that linkin park was somewhat of a combination of the two aforementioned concepts, you would think i dug them. wrong. i fucking hate(d) all that nu-metal tripe. it sucks on pretty much every level... compositionally, lyrically, vocally, and in the execution of the composition. it's just all around horrible 'music' designed to sell shit at hot topic. i thought it had faded away, but you're telling me that these asshats have released another album? wtf? also, the idea of listening to radiohead when you're down cracks me up. i would most certainly end up downing a bottle of the nearest pharmaceutical. alas, taste in music is subjective
Most of Radiohead's music is really dark, but as I said, sometimes it helps to listen to music that you can connect with when you're depressed. Happy music can be irritating when you're in that state. But I have had moments where listening to dark music like that, despite the creative and unique artistic talent, made me feel a lot worse. So it really depends on the mood or mindset. Same with Nick Drake. Same with a good portion of Syd Barrett's solo material. Even the same with The Doors.
i find that the best way to use music to pull yourself out of a funk is to listen to music that contains no lyrics... or at least lyrics in a language you don't know. i feel that this allows for maximum contemplation and a speedy resolution to whatever problem is blocking up your mind.
Oh trust me, I'm into a lot of variety of music. Ambient electronic music, dub techno and classical music are amazing, and I've been listening to them quite a bit. The reason I brought those artists up is because I got this image in my head of certain peers who'd listen to crappy music that expressed their dark emotions. It's like okay, you don't listen to pop, but you still listen to crap. Why not forget both, and listen to something authentic? One doesn't have to sacrifice listening to what are considered musical masterpieces in order to hear some of the darkest music ever made. A lot of youth these days don't seem to understand that. THAT'S the point I was trying to get across. Sorry if I wasn't so clear. Also, sorry for being so judgmental of people's music tastes, but I'm sure you agree with me anyway. After all, the whole point of this thread was how Linkin Park and related music are crap. It took me a bit of a while to realize people were actually serious when they listened to that stuff. I could never take screaming in music seriously. (Except for certain songs by Animal Collective, who rarely use it anyway, and have no need to employ it as a gimmick.) At this point I'm sort of rambling and repeating myself, so let's move on.
