Socialism is closer to people. Capitalism is crisis. It may develops a few time until a crisis comes because capitalism creates competition. Financial competition. Small companies cannot grow up, biggest companies in the world swallow up smaller companies. This is called a monopoly.
Socialism really is the true "peoples party". Howard Zinn knows why. So does Chris Hedges. Just cause its got a bad rap doesn't discredit it....maybe the bad rappers should be discredited. A social democracy is what the US needs to be in order to survive to see some kind of viable future. It would permit meaningful emergency planning too. Socialism is the one political system which respects all people regardless of income...and could see our needs as holistic and interconnected. Capitalism is the party of schizophrenia and separateness of everything from everything else. Socialism doesn't require people to give up their good life...only to consider everyone, and the right of everyone to have their basic needs met. Our paranoia about scarcity is a false fear created by capitalism. Abundance builds on itself and sets an example which creates abundance for more and more...... I wish people would work out this stuff more and not always think it's ivory tower material. Our national survival might just depend on it.
I do if I live close to them and they service my grocery store or lease the flat I own. Especially if I'm paying them 0.000001 cents a week and they're paying me a lot more.
not only is capitalism in crisis but this is an inevitable part of the system. Capitalism relies on maximizing the productivity and the profit, this is done by reducing the costs, the simplest way is to reduce the labor costs by reducing the number of staff (mechanization of jobs) or paying them less (either through pay cuts, freezes, and relocating jobs to where the pay is lower). the problem from this comes as due to the working class receiving a lower share of the wealth they are able to buy less of the things that the are produced. there are two solutions, allow people to accrue debt to purchase the things or the prices have to be reduced so that people can afford them again, this is why we have recessions. 50 years ago people were being promised that they were going to be able to work less and retire earlier, however as we need to fund the system and move the money upwards the opposite has happened. in the US the richest 400 people have the same amount of money as the bottom 150,000,000 it would appear that class struggle is a rather sensible idea in an attempt to level the playing field somewhat
Capitalism is about taking back everything you've been offered. Getting to pension age only to find that it's a carrot on a stick.
