In this video, Bill Donahue talks about some of Christianity's stories and their origins in Pagan religions. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0RFCZ-M6odw"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0RFCZ-M6odw

I gather you posted this because you thought it might be accurate. It isn't. It's an incredibly sloppy re-working of ideas that have been around since the 19th century. Before talking about the errors, did anybody ask who is this dude? No credentials given. Is he a refugee from a mental hospital? Judging from the delivery, that's a distinct possibility, but we don't know. Is that important? Why should anyone believe what he's telling us? He's obviously not a scholar. He doesn't bother to cite his sources. And some of the stuff is laughable--e.g., that when Genesis says Eve was made from Adam's rib, that it was really referring to the splitting of the atom. Adam sounds like atom. Adam also sounds like Atum--enough evidence apparently, without more, for Donahue to jump to the conclusion that the Israelite creation myth in Genesis was borrowed from the Egyptians, even though the particulars are very different. Also rich is the observation that the Egyptian god Amun sounds like 'amen" and that when Jesus allegedly calls himself "the Amen" (He's called that in Re. 3) Jesus is claiming identity with Amun. This will have Bible buffs rolling in the aisles. Is this a satire or what? Donahue alleges that the Bible was "Stolen and copied word for word." From what? The specific sources aren't mentioned. He talks about Krishna, but scholars with good reputations who have studied this stuff, atheists and Christians alike, note the difficulty of separating which came first. Donahue naively assumes that since Hinduism came before Christianity, the Christians must have "copied" the virgin birth from the Hindus. But no sources of Krishna's virgin birth antedate the third century A.D., by which time the possibility that pagan sources were contaminated by Christian ideas. Same with Atis. Same with Mithras. He was originally born from a rock, but by the fourth century it was a virgin rock. And Donahue even gets into the old saw about December 25 being the birthday of other gods. Yes, that's true--because it was believed to mark the winter solstice. But the Christians knew that. Nobody believes that December 25 was the date of Jesus' birth. No one knows when he was born. It's the date Christians chose to commemorate the event--yes, to keep up with the pagan competition. So what really do we gain from listening to an ignorant pseudo-expert free associate about alleged parallels between Christianity and other religions? It's quite possible (I'd say probable) that there were influences both ways, but to speak authoritatively on the subject, we need some better documentation. As for Genesis, Donahue seems to be barking up the wrong culture. Sumerian and Babylonian sources are much more likely, and the Genesis account seems deliberately designed to refute details in the Enuma Elish.
Actually, I posted it to watch folks like you chase their tales around. Quite entertaining. :willy_nilly:
Interesting. Whatever rings your chimes. But probably some folks will believe it. Is that a problem? Are you a soiciopath?"
last time i checked, okiefreak wasn't a religious zealot, and he does have a point.. at least one as valid as the one in the video.
I didn't watch the video yet but one only need's to do a little history learning to find out the truth on most of it. We don't know much about the real Christians. They are guessed to have been another Earth Belief. What we have for them now is a Book of Laws. And story's stolen from a mix of other beliefs. The bible consent of many Norse and Saxon traditions. No one wanted to convert, But the kings forced it onto many people, Which this is what made vikings become vikings. Fighting for freedom. Because they did not want to stop doing what they were doing a lot of things got added to the bible. The heaven hell concept also came at a later christian time then most think. Heaven- Is what the Norse and others called the Over all Cosmos and any World that is not of our normal word. Hell Used to be Hel with one L before the Christians took it. And over all is the place of the common dead no matter what Gods you follow. Some other beliefs just call it the underworld. it is also know as the underworld or Hel to Norse/Saxons Etc. It does have a area for people who break a lot of oaths that is pretty sucky. In ancient time's most beliefs around the world say that a really Dark unworthy soul is devoured after they die. They deserve no after life. The norse/saxons Etc have a beast that will eat you after you wounder to the gate of hel, If you are Dead from this world, And are not worthy to be anymore. Easter they didn't change a thing. To the saxons they Called it Eater, The day they would honor the Goddess Named Easter her Symbol was Dyed eggs and a rabbit. The norse and Celts and others called her Osatra but still Hid the Eggs and Ate rabbit on the day. There was a time that Christians outlawed egg hiding, Two Kings were put to death for hiding eggs for his family, Before they gave up and just made it there own holiday Another major one is Christmas, It falls in the center of the Yule tide, A time of Gifts, Dinners feast and other stuff that goes on for 12 days. Also was cutting heads off for it in till they came up with Christmas at a later date then most know. If you read the bible you will find jesus if a real man, Was born around Oct-Sep. Not going into detail, But the hints are there,or mistakes maby they should be called. One of the hints is it states, That they were taking the lambs to market around the time. In those times they did that once a year around Oct-Sept. But you can google search and get all the info on it somewhere. The yule tide tree started as the decorations on Oak trees for Thor,Thunor And for the Birds to eat on, And the spirits of Ancestors to visit. They would use round fruit mostly. when it became outlawed by death, They started to cut down evergreen trees and take them inside to hide them, because they already Hanged decorations inside the house, Green twigs and mistletoes and such. Christmas lights also started in Ancient time's, They would light the house up with candles wall to wall to leave no dark space, So when they invited the other world Wights and spirits into the house they would have plenty of light, And so no dark ones would want to hang out in the shadows when it was all over. Most christian symbols came from the Norse and Saxons, Pretty much they could not stop people from giving honor to the old god's in the Church and in there Homes and Hof's. So they gave in one thing at a time and just added them to there base belief. The christian belief as we know it, Is just a system of law and control. In older ways everyman and woman had say, And had rights, It sates every man is his own chief, The details for this go on and on, Can take years to study it all. I feel every ancient belief connects to the same beings, Gods/Goddess spirits. But different God's/Goddess spirits may speak and work with different people across the world. Just look at The Norse, Saxons Celts, Same gods but the names are slightly different. They all have some of there own story's dealing with the God's. They have evidence from a grave dig up a few months ago that now link Buddha as maby being another vision or version of a Norse God. And also for the information, Zues and the Greek gods also are not all that old, They called them the New God's And they were a personal rewrite of the Older god's. The reason for the redo is clear, Do build a empire. The older belief's were more tribal based and did not allow such control. The christian upgrade was a great upgrade for even more control, It added even more fear factor once they got everyone brained washed. The belief that the Norse and Saxons and others followed has been found back as far as 50 thousand years, In the Cave days, Found in Small artwork inside caves and a few findings mostly spirit based. The god's didn't really show up for men for some time. I feel around the time the Runes showed up, which we don't have a perfect date, If you read all of this hope you enjoyed your history lesson. may it open up your Mind Trips even more. i see so many people get tied up with Heaven, hell and Christian thought when on a soul trip, I feel it holds them back on connections they could make. Half of the stuff people say they have seen Is somewhere in ancient story's, Or at least the type/race of the being or spirit could be linked to a certain group of beings already know by our Ancestors.
Hi all.... for a deeper and more scholarly look into the whole idea, my great grandfather, John M. Robertson (a self educated scholar and prolific journalist) wrote extensively on this. The two books below may be of particular interest. They continue to be valued by scholars to this day, and are still referred to by serious students of comparative hierology.... "You take the blue pill - the story ends...you take the red pill - and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes. - Morpheus in The Matrix.... Talk about your red pills.... J.M. Robertson herein challenges not only the historical authenticity of the canonical accounts of the founding of Christianity, but also Buddhism, Hinduism, Jainism, Zoroastrianism, and Judaism. He answers the question implicit in Kersey Graves' 1875 screed, The World's Sixteen Crucified Saviors. Why so many similar stories of savior figures in world religion? At the dark heart of this mystery, according to Robertson, is a prehistoric drama involving human sacrifice (particularly, of children), cannibalism, and regicide. The purpose: to implore the gods, or to expiate collective sin. As time passed, the rituals were softened, and turned into symbolic equivalents (such as the scapegoat and the eucharist), while retaining the tragic end of the narrative. A culture hero, born under portents, dies, often under torture, in order to save all humanity. These and other tropes ended up embedded in our tales of the founders of major religions, from Buddha to Jesus. Robertson pulls in historic, ethnographic and folklore data from hundreds of carefully cited sources. He covers examples from antiquity such as Mithraism, Manichaeism, and Apollonius of Tyana. In the final section he universalizes his study and focuses on Native America, particularly the Aztec. The conclusions of this book remain highly controversial, but the sheer mass of evidence accumulated demands consideration. This will be a thorny book for believers, but a revelation for free-thinkers." J.B. Hare, Feb. 10, 2008. Click on the titles to read them on line.... Christianity and mythology Pagan Christs Aemilius
