I received my bachelors degree almost two years ago. I have been lucky enough to maintain full-time employment in customer service hell during this time, while continuing a 20 hour/wk. job search.

Last week, I finally received an offer for a phone interview for the first time since I graduated. The job is in fundraising, my field of study! I was interviewed conference-style by four people at once over the phone. I think it went well, though I couldn't see their reactions, phone reception issues, etc. I sent Thank-you emails to all the of the interviewers, and a few days later I was offered an in-person interview…to take place two-weeks later. I guess the time delay is due to it being vacation season for my interviewers. Meanwhile, they sent me an agenda for the interview along with emails to make sure I knew their location etc. The agenda outlines a few different meetings with key players over a three-four hour time span.

I guess what I'm getting at is that ughhhhhh I'm so nervous. I'm not one to be anxious about public speaking or proving that I'm qualified, but shit after two years of searching and not one offer I guess my confidence has been injured a bit.

Does anyone have any tips for conference-style interviews? How to stand out? Maintaining your sanity while waiting for the interview or an offer?

How to transition from an hourly worker to a salaried worker a.k.a how to transition from a job to a big-girl career?

I'm actually considering it! I wonder how that works though. Because if the person is say, not physically attractive, wouldn't I have a disgusted look on my face? Or is it more like "picture this person as more vulnerable than yourself"?

Well if the job you are going to be interviewing for is what you studied in college then just be yourself. It's natural to be anxious about it. Everyone gets anxious for job interviews. I was nervous for a fucking baskin robbins interview that i got on the spot a few years ago cuz i hadn't had a job in so long. Don't try and put on some fake front about anything.

fundraising? you must be insane. that is by far the worst (luckily small) aspect of my job.

as long as you know your shit, just don't worry about it. you still have a job even if you don't get this one, so the worst that can happen is nothing changes. and confidence in an interview is important.

if you do get the job, the difference between hourly and salary is basically that with salary you're ALWAYS on call. as long as it's a job you really enjoy, it's actually better that way though. you generally have more freedom to do the job right as opposed to doing what you can when you happen to be there.

i have worked at 7 places since i started working at the age of 16. the longest i ever hunted for a job was for my first which was at a burger joint and that took about two weeks. from there all my jobs were just kind of through channels of knowing people and being out and about.

it sounds like they're interested in you, and i'd be excited. good luck. you've got your edu. not sure if you've got any experience. if so great, if not, look forward to an entry level position to launch from. just be honest. just remember to treat everybody the same.. no reason to get anymore nervous in front of them than anybody else. try not to think about yourself and just be honest and positive and do your thing.

It went well, I think. I just hope they like me more than the other people they interviewed.

if you offer a blow job, you'll definitely get the job.

I hope you walked in with some cleavage showing, too. Boobs (or moobs, depending on the preference of the interviewer) always win.
