I used smoke most every night before bed, I recently had to stop due to drug tests. And shockingly I started remembering my dreams again! My dreams have always kinda been fucked up, but lately they have been supper fucked up. Ex. Me meeting people that I know are dead. Like family members. And me doing things I would never do in real life. Has this happened to anyone else?

I'm the same way, I rarely remember dreams if I get blazed before bedtime, but I sleep all the well... so yes, this happens to me as well and I've heard the same from others.

I USED to smoke weed on a daily basis for years, and overall smoked regularly for at the least 35 years.
On May 15th, this year I quit - for reasons I'm not going to get into here - altho' I surely to goodness didn't quit because I suddenly think its "wrong" or any such as that. Anyway...about the dreaming...SWEET BEJEBUS!!!
Even when I was smoking, I had vivid dreams...but these things (dreams) I'm having now are to the point of waking me up EVERY NIGHT after I've only slept about 3 - 4 hours. I was happy enough with my dreaming as it was BEFORE I quit smoking. I do NOT like waking up after only 4 hours from one or the other bizarre circumstance. Last night was the first night I actually had anything close to a good dream, and it was spending time with my now-dead husband.
Good luck to you. I can't afford to go to a doctor and ask for a "dream suppressant"...and I'm not sure anything like that would be good for you anyway. Is anything like that even available? I know I am NOT interested in this new-fangled thing that is being advertized that is supposed to "gear your dreaming" - like hooking yourself up to an i-pad that activates with REM sleep. Have you heard of that?

I have not heard of that. But I have had a couple of lucid dreams after I quit. Like where you can control your dreams! I enjoy that.

This is a well known circumstance, Terence McKenna documented it in several of his talks. I've noticed it myself as well... But even when I was smoking the real serious apocalyptic dreams still came through loud and clear.

Dreams about dead family members are not necessarily a bad thing. I've heard people say that these are real contacts with someone in another plane of existence, and other people say that these dreams represent our unresolved feelings. I suspect they could both be right, and that there are other possibilities.

Honestly, I hate to go too many nights without having a dream I can remember.

i've been smoking a lot less weed lately and i'm remembering my dreams regularly now. not sure if i want to though. the other night i dreamed that i walked in on drew carey jerking off, and then he rode away on a big green watering can that he was pretending was a horse. he also had a toy suction cup bow and arrow slung over his shoulder.

    disturbing...

Yes, it is common. I've heard it from others and experience it myself as well. Happily I don't have really fucked up dreams (just some really strange ones :D) but unfortunately I never had a lucid dream either... (or perhaps so but never had a recollection of it :p)

I noticed the same thing. I quit (kinda-just don't have time to smoke anymore) although I never really smoked much before.

But now, I'm having lots of really bizarre dreams that I'm remembering (for the most part).

I suggest keeping a dream journal. I started one last week.

Sometimes, truthfully, I'd rather have the smoke... The dreams can get too weird.

    AMEN to that^!

In the past month and roughly 1/2, I've had 2 dreams (of 2 dead men I loved very much) - and those are the ONLY ONES that have not made me want to stay up the rest of the night. :hide:

Also, I thought stopping smoking was supposed to give me this clear head, altho' I didn't think I had problems with that anyway. just sayin'...

I was just imagining ALL THESE WONDERFUL things that were going to happen within (if nowhere else); but, I'm not experiencing anything of the like, yet. gad, huh. I still am not going to smoke (again, for reasons I choose not to discuss now)...but I'm also (still) waiting on the GOOD effects. In the meantime, I find I am having to drink alcohol sometimes just to take the edge off even tho' I really don't drink much and don't enjoy it much. I'm drinking some supposedly relaxing tea (it's ok) at night.

    However, I really do agree with you...it wasn't like I didn't dream I was smoking. ;)

i smoke weed everyday, and still remember some of my dreams, but it definitely impairs my dream recall.

when i stop smoking for a few days, it seems that i have crazy intense and insane dreams, but it's due to increased dream recall. when i do remember my dreams, they are usually pretty crazy and not pleasant.

i've also had dreams about my dead uncle that i was close with, don't recall if i was "on" weed or not. those dreams were VERY intense and real, and i've woken up in tears from them, feeling like i actually was communicating with him. in those dreams i am always acknowledging the fact that he is back from the dead! nobody else seems to think it's that weird, including him.

that sounds pretty crazy. 1st i've heard of it.

i'm sure the thought has crossed your mind to maybe start smoking weed again? maybe just a hit or two at night, so you don't dream so intensely. you don't seem to want to discuss that, so you don't have to answer.

i'd be interested to hear about your unpleasant dreams that keep you awake after they happen. maybe they are too disturbing, but sharing that with others can maybe get it off your mind and maybe outta your dreams? prob not though :)

I've dreamed often I'm in situations where I'm running from or to something...but never get really away or there. I'm often lost, wandering, can't find my car or the people I was with.

I've dreamed of awful murders and bloody stuff. Also times where I've told off some people (those weren't too bad though :D) and stopped short of hurting them (bad). Although, I did push them and smack them around, I would wind up laughing. (I'm not sure the laughter was "good" laughter. :p)

I've dreamed of walking through haunted places and seeing and hearing spiritS, and doing what I do to protect myself.

I've dreamed (several times) of being approached by a vampire...but he was not "pretty" and had a mashed to the side nose (like a fighter that didn't have a side-ways nose fixed.) I even dreamed he bit me - and it felt GOOD...I woke up IMMEDIATELY and checked my neck, just in case, you know? (no marks) I remember telling him I was not interested in anything that would take me from this world and/or the world of my son...I'm kind of embarrassed to say I didn't turn him down for any religious convictions, which I do have.

There are some other things, but those are the ones just off the top of my head. A lot of my get-me-awake-dreams have recurring themes.

Oh, and just for the record, I haven't been reading anything that would have these type themes, or would "cause subconciously" me to dream such.

In my experiences there are a few instances where we can have "bad" dreams:

    1. Our bodies are worn out. After you quit something mood/brain altering your body will detox and cleanse what was being stored up...this can be disturbing but if you approach it you can greatly reduce the disturbing factor. Focus on destressing, having a healthier body with more sunshine, more hydration, more exercise, healthier eating. Focus on mental/emotional/spiritual release with imagination, goal setting, creativity and visualizing, etc. during the day..this will get some of the emotional cobwebs untangled during the day and allow your dreams to be less of a stretch of your comfort zone.

    2. We are judging our dreams too harshly. We experience something and are afraid of it based on our own perspective rather than on the reality of it. If you have comfort and trust in your mind and your place in the world you will have less fears of harmless dreams.

    3. There are some cases where negative energy actually shows up in dreams. Protect yourself by focusing a circle of love and positivity before bed. Show gratitude, ask for peace, love and light. Devote your heart to love and try your best to be accepting and aware of your mental states and your own good in waking and beyond. Release anger, blame, desperation and negative emotions that attract negative energies, be aware during the day of your need to release negative energy and bring positivity and responsibility into your days...this will help you to have a positive or neutral charge before bed, rather than a negative one.

I'm the opposite. If I smoke while laying down right before bed, I have adventurous dreams; Sci-fi/RPG sort of dreams. The kind I like.

Without smoking, I don't remember many of them.

Hasn't happened to me but it sounds incredible. My suggestion is to maybe smoke during the day or even better, wake n bake, so that you can dream normally and still have your high. That is, if you still want it. :D

Just thought I'd check in again (with this particular thread)...and have eaten Firecrackers - meaning eaten marijuana. Now, when I've done that, I not only had NO DREAMS I recall, it is all I can do to get up the next day...maybe I should use less on my Firecracker, or just eat one instead of 2?!
Anyway, I still just wish I could be damn normal (a dream I gave up some time ago), and am now trying drinking liqueur (Amaretto) to help at night - and late afternoon this particular day.
Quitting cigs was NOTHING compared to quitting smoking marijuana. Perhaps eventually I'll get "used to" it/get over it...but I'm thinking the eventually will be on down the road. :D
