Who would like to help me compile a comprehensive list of people who have given up shoes partly or completely? (I thought it might also help my case with the college) So far I have: Completely (or as good as): Socrates Cody Lundin – advanced survival expert and star of Duel Survival, has gone barefoot in some of the harshest environments on earth for over 22 years Dr Danniel Howell - Professor of Biology, Liberty University Partly, or ones I am unsure of: Einstein – did not like to wear shoes and often attended official functions barefoot Rob Bredl the ‘Barefoot Bushman’. Famous documentary film maker. Specialises in crocodiles. Alison O'Neill – better known as ‘The Barefoot Shepherdess’ - leads barefoot walking tours. Wim Holf – ‘The Iceman’ climbed Mount Everest in a pair of shorts, runs barefoot in the Arctic
Other than my spiritual Guru who happens to be an Indian Shaivite (so not that unusual) I know a few musical celebs, Jim Morrison (The Doors) - Went barefoot before they were famous & The Doors were once told they weren't allowed to play a gig because Jim didn't have any shoes. Joss Stone & Sandie Shaw. Also Marie Fredriksson , the female part of Roxette. I'm sure there is loads more.
Sorry, I can't contribute, but I was surprised at some of these names so I did some google research and I found a website where someone called barefooting "pedal nudity" :smilielol5: I thought that was worth adding  Sorry sorry, please return to discussing the pedally nude celebs
That's weird. I have heard people say that someone's feet were 'naked as the day they were born'. Apparently some people are so completely unused to seeing feet that they find them obscene.
Janis Joplin went barefoot around college a lot. Eddie Izzard is barefooting across Africa, I think....
Excuse my ignorance but is he that tranny-comic guy? If so that's quite a bizzare picture in my head :dizzy2:
I say bare footing is like walking, we all do it sometime. It is, to me, the default setting. Shoes are the addition. I do wear shoes in urban areas. Not as much in open spaces. But I also dont define myself by what I wear, or don't.
I do believe steve jobs delivered the first order of macs barefoot, and was known to go barefoot in his younger days. I don't know about later.
One of these people is, bizarrely, helping me with my case, XD. When bare-footedness comes up in the news you tend to get people comparing it to being naked, something obscene, etc. The irony is that they are most certainly typing these comments with their bare hands, which are exposed almost 24\7, lol.
Yeah I don't get it when people try to compare it to going naked or going topless, etc. "Well I can't go naked all the time if I wanted to", well no there are actually laws (in the USA) against indecent exposure, but there are NO laws against bare feet.
Indeed the 'required by health department' signs are bollocks, the OSHA only requires (very specific standardised and tested) shoes in about three different circumstances, it cannot tell you to 'wear shoes' since it needs to specify a requirement for steel toecaps, chemical resistant boots, and things like that. Regular shoes have no status in ANY Health & Safety law and most leave this stuff up to personal policy. Indeed, in some cities in America you ARE allowed to go naked as long as it isn't sexual! (New Orleans may be one) The only laws in America that prohibit bare feet in public places are specific ordnances, and when these come up in court they are generally dismissed as 'unconstitutional'. I.e., the laws themselves are illegal, which has to be one of the grandest ironies there is. Also, if you read this blog you will see that the main reason that shops in America can eject you is illegal. Unfortunately they don't even need to give a reason in England unless you are black or gay. But, at least, we don't have specific ordnances, even if the uniforms required by all of our schools always include a line demanding black shoes and often don't even let you go barefoot for PE. :/ This is why I'm fighting for this, and why I'm going to keep fighting. I have an online video in the works and I'm almost ready to start recording.
I don't have exact names but perhaps are useful this two points: - Mostly everybody in europe before Rome, and after Roman imperium only rich people used shoes, that changed only with the black pest (the plague). - All the Olympic athletes in ancient Greece, well, actually they were fully nude at time to make sport (only our movies and draws imagined them with shoes/clothes).
You can add Mutabaruka, the famous Jamaican poet to your list of full-time barefooters. He's traveled the world for many years barefoot and performs on stage without shoes....
Not in the films, I'm sad to say. For some reason Camaron - himself something of a barefooter, made them wear giant rubber feet. Which wore through constantly and took hours to re-aply. I can think of only one reason for him having done this - some weird sense of embarrassment.
Guilty as charged... just google "pedal nudity", switch to the picture results... guess who'll you see there Wiggling bare toes, ~*Ganesha*~
