Pot may be a band-aid, but it's a strong one. As if anti-depressants are solutions.... I think psychedelics can be a more permanent solution to depression. Especially considering that few week afterglow. There was an article I remember reading from this year about magic mushrooms and LSD helping cure depression. Of course, though, with psychedelics there's the risk of a bad trip if you don't go into it with the right mindset or setting. Plus the whole illegality makes it difficult to obtain unless you're in the right circle, or using a grow kit. (Still hoping I find a way for my next trip.) Either/or, cannabis and psychedelics are much better than what's offered by the mainstream pharmaceutical industry. I would say yes to a psychologist or a counselor if I was in OP's position, but I would not touch mental-health based prescription drugs.
I sent you a mssge Well i only smoke and drink beers sometimes when my friends invite me or when I'm stressed out Waaaa I dont want to be addictive on those things so I think I'll just stay clean for awhile I'm just curious how does it feel when your high?? :O btw I read an article reagrding pot somewhere that they say it lowers your IQ is that true? and thts the reason why they call pot a dope :O
We'll continue talking via PM. And I bet that article you read was from a government-sponsored website. heh Because there's a different article I read saying it actually rejuvenates brain cells for Alzheimer's patients.
speaking from personal experience, and from a mate of mine who just got out of hospital after a (primarily) weed-induced psychotic episode, i can't advocate the use of weed to help alleviate depression. it seems to work for a lot of people, but it doesn't work for everyone, and can be pretty nasty when it doesn't (and while i wouldnt go so far as to say that in me and my friends case, cannabis was entirely to blame, it CERTAINLY didn't help.) be careful, man. excersize and dietary changes help my depression, also, regulate your sleeping pattern, leave your curtains open and try to rise with the sun. these are fairly minor changes but you'd really be surprised how much they can help. when shit gets serious, don't be embarrassed to seek professional help. its what they train for, much better than having an ambulance called for you when your shouting in the street at 3 in the morning, believe me.
What exactly happens when you have weed induced psychotic episode?? Btw the thing about shouting in the street 3 in the morning's kinda scary XD have you ever done that?? :O
don't be afraid to talk to someone. i'm sure your parents would rather know than have you suffer alone. try and force yourself to eat healthy food and to get daily exercise. maybe take vitamin B12 a few times/week as well. you'll be surprised how much little things like this can help improve your mood.
symptoms of cannabis psychosis: "Hallucinations are vague and delusions may be transitory with little in the way of thought disorder. There is often a lack of volition and a history of gradually deteriorating social ability and contact with others, including significant others. This history will often be verified by relatives and close friends who may be either completely ignorant of the drug taking, or confirm that there has been some in the past but believe that there has been little drug taking recently. There is often a depressive component with suicide attempts in the past but nothing recent or, if there is, then they are only ineffectual pleas for help. The person has usually lost his or her job some months or weeks before due to their poor performance at work. There is often very poor memory and concentration, which may be marked at the time of presentation. Paranoid delusions may be present and quite severe which can be the most alarming psychotic feature and result in hospital admission. If confronted with aggressive and authoritarian staff, who indicate verbally or non-verbally, that they do not believe the patient, the patient may become violent or simply leave against medical advice. " yep, that last bit in particular. it was my friend with the ambulance, he suffered a psychotic episode. But that can happen, treating depression with a depressive lol he thought he'd discovered a formula for absolute success, then he thought that having access to the knowledge was dangerous and that people were out to get him as a result, got stitches trying to break out of hospital through a window. he's fine now though, could have been a lot worse. those are the "acute" symptoms, "chronic" symptoms are longer term effects- "Patients are left with the well-recognised and permanent symptoms of memory loss, apathy, loss of motivation and, paranoid ideation. These symptoms known as “ the Amotivational Syndrome” in the past are usually permanent.[5] If Cannabis using resumes then the acute symptoms redevelop."
no probs. i'm not sayin' that this is all that common, most people use cannabis regularly with no ill effects (lord, how i envy them lol) but i wouldn't reccomend self-medicating with it, especially if you have any pre-existing mental health issues or family history of the same. its NOT entirely safe, and can mess you up if your not careful.
being low in B12 can cause loss of energy, depression, etc. it's a good idea to get your blood tested for low iron or B12, it can sometimes be something as simple as that.
Smoke weed, eat shrooms if you feel depressed. Cut the cigarettes and hard liquor bullshit. If you want to drink have beer. I can guarantee your whole view on life will be flipped. Don't eat garbage food too, one overlooked point. What it boils down too is the more processed the shit you put in your body is the dirtier you feel. No offense but your far from "clean".
Ok... 1) As much as some people here like to think, weed is not a miracle cure-all for every ailment on earth. Yes, it works for some people. But in some cases, if you already have tendencies for an underlying mental illness, weed can bring it to the forefront (weed-induced psychosis) OTOH, anti-depressants CAN work for SOME people. That's the point--nothing works for everyone, and the OP has the right to make the decision himself as to what he chooses to do. Besides, if you're anxious about smoking weed, it can just make you more anxious and paranoid, e.g my first time being high. I've been on 2 different antidepressants with no problems. I also used to enjoy weed, but I never felt it did anything for my depression. The good thing about anti-depressants is that you can be on them and still function. I for one can't drive while high, nor did I want to be high all day. So I pretty much could only do it in the evenings, and even then, it's no longer an option for me (and for a lot of people) due to employment. Sucks, but it is what it is. 2) OP: RELAX. They CANNOT tell your parents, there's no such thing as a "permanent record" (that's what they told you in grade school to get you to behave) Unless you get arrested, you don't have to worry about someone finding out about your past. 3) I'm a nurse, and trust me, these people have seen FAR more "crazy" things other than depression and anxiety. No one is judging you. Mental health nurses are actually some of the most laid-back people I've met...you kind of have to be in that field. 4) Psychiatrists are MDs and the only ones that can prescribe drugs. They're supposed to provide talk-therapy as well, but the quality of talk therapy varies. Some will talk to you for 30 seconds while others will spend more time. You can go to ratemydoctor.com and get reviews on psychiatrists, just make sure your insurance covers the doc. Psychologists/therapists/counselors can provide talk therapy from various schools of thought, but can't give meds. Some psychologists, however, work in the same office as psychiatrists, so it would still be pretty easy to get a medication if that's what you decide you need. 5) I've been in counseling many, many times for many different reasons. I'm still "normal" and I still lead a productive life. And while I choose to be open about my history with therapy, nobody I've ever met has ever been or even seemed to be judgmental about it. Maybe you could've been stigmatized for it in high school, but out in the real world most people go to counseling at one point or another in their lives. Unless they never get stressed out because they're boring fucks. High school to college is a HUGE transition for anyone. Please don't be so hard on yourself. You're on your own for the first time, I was scared too. And so are most kids whether they admit to it or not. Good luck, and keep your head up.
I really appreciate your reply Do you know how do the psychiatrist talks to you or what they do to diagnose you? I mean do they show you rorschach or give you some evaluation test?
a psychiatrist will ask you a bunch of questions and try and come up with a diagnosis and maybe a prescription for medication if he/she thinks it will help. a psychologist or counsellor will do more talk therapy, and try to get to the underlying problems that are causing your problems. they will usually try to also suggest coping strategies.
Going to a Dr. and getting prescriptions........that is going on your permanent record. There are other alternatives. Natural alternatives, diet changes, etc. that can dramatically alter your mood. Good luck and I hope you find peace.:daisy:
Self-medicating with cannabis isn't for everyone, but if you've done enough research, if you don't oversmoke yourself, if you're not predisposed to schizophrenia, and if you have the right mindset/setting, I think it's a really good route. There's certainly less risk going into it than there is experimenting with different anti-depressants. And as I said, psychedelics can be a more permanent solution to depression specifically. All you might need are just 1 or 2 trips to be changed completely. But of course, a psychedelic session involves so many more variables that have to be ideal in order to achieve the outcome. Having a good diet, exercise, finding a passion, going to therapy are all wonderful things. No doubt. In fact, if you're not going to use cannabis or psychedelics, I would recommend no drugs at all. For the people that have found the right prescription medication that works for them, I'm glad for you. But most people are not so lucky, so that's why I offer the advice I do.
I don't get it, you mean it'll be on my permanent record when I get prescription from the Dr. in school?
St. john's wort is basically natural prozac. You need to take it for weeks, maybe months, to make it take effect. Besides that, there's pot, psychedelics, food with different levels of various amino acids and such, better sleep and schedule habits, sunlight and lots of bright bulbs in your living space (I have a cieling lamp and two pixar style lights on, with high wattage bulbs, ATM, just in this room).
