i've been doing a bit of research and wanted to hear what you guys have to say about this. i used to be on medication for anxiety/depression but am now looking for an alternative with herbs.
Valerian Root--Doesn't work for me, but it does for a lot of people. Careful though, if you take too much and have to take a drug test you'll test + for benzos Blue Lotus--Works ok, but it produces apomorphine, which will make you test + for opiates (I had a really bad experience with these 2 herbs and a drug test a while back...legal doesn't always mean negative drug test...oh well, live and learn) Kanna--did jack shit for me, but it gets rave reviews all the time. Could've been my source, or the fact that I wasn't about to insufflate it, which is the recommended method of consumption Kava Kava--leaves you with a mildly drunk feeling. Be careful not to take too much, the roots can be hard on the liver. Tryptophan, Passion flower, Damiana, Melatonin, 5 HTP are other options, though I don't have personal experiences with them. St John's Wort is known to work for depression, but don't take it if you're on any other prescriptions, as it has a nasty habit of interfering with them. I think I just got spoiled with klonipin and now all the natural stuff seems pretty weak in comparison. Good luck.
California Poppy... ( Eschscholzia californica ) is a mild sedative when smoked, can be used in teas as well. It's not an opiate poppy, different plant entirely. It has been used for depression/anxiety... I haven't had a chance to try it myself yet.
I've read that 5-htp helps but didn't notice anything. getting exercise, eating well, and taking b12 once in a while will make a huge difference.
Go outside . Or get away someplace where you can get some fresh air. Treat yourself like you're special Mediate or Relax yourself. DIG DEEP & Find out why or who is causing you , your anxiety. After that .. Find something you like to do & keep your mind off of what's causing you that anxiety.
the best is to get prescribed chinese herbs or check out this book, "Curing Depression Naturally with Chinese Medicine" by Bob Flaws
What Jay said, she seems to know her stuff. I had a friend who drank lobelia tea to relax. I had some with her and it seemed fairly mild to me.
i hear aromatherapy works Plant essential oils can be added to baths, massage oil, or infusers. Essential oils that are used for anxiety and nervous tension are: bergamot, cypress, geranium, jasmine, lavender, melissa, neroli, rose, sandalwood, ylang-ylang. Lavender is the most common and forms the base of many relaxing blends Terry E. Smead
^^^ This ^^^ Incense, essential oils and fresh plants drying in the "rafters" if available... (No rafters, just hanging from the ceiling.)
