A few weeks ago, I had to visit the US Embassy in Warsaw to renew my passport. After riceving the passport, I've been getting annoying travel warnings by e-mail. The Euro Cup is now going on here, and so they've sent paternalistic sounding travel warnings. After the second warning the embassy sent a text message to my cell which read: "Please see the latest Security Message for US Citzens". I'm a legal immigrant English teacher. Uncle Sam is not my Daddy and I find it ridiculous that once the embassy has your contact details; they feel the need to send you security warnings which read like parents scoulding their children! Does anyone else share this opinion?

I bet it took you a lot longer to type that post than to read an email and a text message.

I used to be part of the warden system with the US embassy in Cairo. During the revolution here last year, I used to get emails alert daily. But they were always at least a day behind what I was able to find on the net from other sources or from CNN.

    Our tax dollars at work.

I have like half a dozen phone companies calling my landline and cell every other day trying to sell me the latest flat rate bullshit. One of them is the company that I do have contract with. But they don't friggin seem to know I'm already a customer.

And you think you have problems?
