    Hey people,
Im new to this forum and what brought me here is a question that spurred my curiosity.

Here is the thing. Have you ever talked to yourself? not necessarily out loud, but like saying: "hey [your own name], whats up?", or ask any question. At first usually its hard to get an answer, maybe you get a lazy "yeaaah" or "whaaat" or something.. Within some time though you are talking to a different you, that can give you insights, is smarter, more relaxed, even high, or even sleepy... At least that's what happens to me. I connect to a "higher self" it seems, and sometimes this 'personality' after connecting can overcome the usual personality for some time and be my own self.

I wonder, what is that that you are talking to when you talk to yourself? who do you reach? Is is your higher self, your inner buddha, your heart, your right brain? Or maybe youre just developing a split personality? LOL...
I wonder what you think about it.

Oh, I talk to myself all the time. I remind myself of Gollum and Smeagol!
But I've never thought of it as a "Higher" version of me, though.

Yeah sometimes, I do that perhaps out of boredom and loneliness since I live all by myself :/

I don't know but what I do know is it's a mistake to think we are a constant, stable, unchanging entity. Different shades can come out at different times even within the space of a few seconds and in response to your own thoughts. Doesn't mean there are multiple selves.

it is an internal dialog. However, it's not like an usual dialog, its like im reaching a deeper self or smt, cos this 'personality' is different... so its not like a usual internal dialog. And then the dialog disappears and all its left is that other more relaxed self. I hope it makes sense.

It makes sense to me. I've had friends in twelve step recovery programs talk about a "Higher Self" as their version of the "Higher Power" they all have to find in the program. It also reminds me of the Christian concept of conscience. I think it's useful analytically, but I'd be a little concern if you experience it as an entity different from you. You're just focusing, consciously or unconsciously, on an aspect of your own mind.

I usually only talk to myself when it's something like "stop slacking off and get back to work"
or "where the hell did you put the phone?"

When I speak of my Higher Self, it has no personality. My higher self is a realization, or you could even say a manifestation of God. It is that guiding force that compels me to do right even when I want to do wrong. It leads me to be compassionate when I really want to yell, " Get the hell away from me", at the homeless people in front of the grocery store. It is what allows me to have peace in my life amid all of this craziness going on in this world. The higher self has no animal urges (sex, hunger, etc.) peace, love, and understanding reign.
