In a move scarcely noticed by the media or the public, an amendment was added to the Defense Authorization bill before Congress to repeal decades old laws that prevent Americans from being inundated with propaganda (lies) by their own Government.

Currently the laws in place allow propaganda to be disseminated overseas but not in the USA. Removing these laws will allow the government to LIE to its citizens to further its own interests.

The timing of this amendment could not be worse. The US is right now considering an attack on Iran, but the American public is so sick of War, the idea of a new war is not popular. But if the US is allowed to LIE to us they will stir up sentiment against Iran just like they did against Iraq, but even worse!

They will be able to use all media and social networking and even use sock puppets to posts on sites like Facebook and twitter and even the Hip Forums...

And it appears this bill has already passed the House!

What will the effective difference be from the current system though? It's not like the US government doesn't lie to its populace on a regular basis as it is, it's just gonna be legal now.

Their just making their illegal acts legal . Not that the bunch of fucking criminals care anyway . Not like anyone was EVER going to be charged under the existing act anyway . Honestly there stupid for bringing attention to it . So we can say "hey , they have been doing this illegally for a long time ".

Yeah, that's a bit of the old beating a dead horse. I thought that was the mass media's purpose. I guess they don't even feel the need to perpetuate the fanciful notion that we have a free press in this country. LOL and feeling a little more nauseous.

Whatever happens, whatever this amounts to, our collective experience is still growing because of it. I don't fault them for doing this and i don't fault the people if they are seduced by it. Whatever the outcome, it was necessary for us to grow.

They were already doing it ?

not the govt. directly, but the private interests who were supporting government into power were doing propaganda through everything they owned - private think thanks, private colleges, private media.

    its not something new.

they are just dumping the propaganda costs to the government - to taxpayer. now the government will hire private firms probably. and then have them do private propaganda for private interests, with public money.

As if they don't already spread propaganda.

Then again, this would make things far worse. Completely ridiculous.

Ron Paul could have steered this country into a more righteous direction.
