A trip never ends. A drug isn't consumed, a drug takes you up to its level. It feels strange for a couple of hours, then when you're adjusted to what you've learned, you're a different person. So it's more like coming up. If our existence were composed of separate states with an impassive ego to unite them, for us there would be no duration. For an ego which does not change does not endure, and a psychic state which remains the same so long as it is not replaced by the following state does not endure either. Vain, therefore, is the attempt to range such states beside each other on the ego supposed to sustain them; never can these solids strung upon a solid make up that duration which flows -Henri Bergson
drugs helped me realize that i "level up" all the time. my body effectively regenerates itself into a new body fully every 7 years or something like that. i'm like a snake or a locust or snail or somethin else cool
I don't even think the new state you enter after a trip can be compared to the old one. There's nothing there to link the two together. Self is an illusion.
very interesting. i have felt "level ups" as well, though after a little rough patch aka relationship drama, i kinda lost that momentum. this was a couple months ago. i began to feel like i was in a cocoon state, where things were building up, the inside was getting a little nasty, i just had to do some tidying up in my life so i can hatch into a lovely butterfly. that sounds kinda gay... but. whatevz. nothing wrong with that. anyway i can sense my self shedding attachments that are no longer beneficial, for example a girlfriend, old friends, habits, old beliefs, fears. events in my life playing out, leading me to beneficiaries. but yes, the first lessons i learned through psyches is that life itself is indeed a trip. also, some events feel kinda like trips. like for example giving a speech, some of the anxiety that could occur prior to the speech, is like the come up, the act of giving the speech is the peak, and the closing, down to the finish is the comedown. then the afterglow that occurs due to the satisfaction of the speech that was completed!
except that after you come down from a trip, and tolerance goes away, you can trip again on the same dose. not to say that you can't learn and grow from psychedelics. but they don't just take you to this higher level and keep you there. you have to put in some effort to really hold on to the lessons.
Interesting concepts, there are dramatic changes in the psyche after a powerful psychedelic trip whether it be a good or bad experience. I hold the notion that for most it is an experience that sort of builds upon the old state rather than completely removed from it. Even with the new perspectives and awareness, ego returns and individuals usually still go back to their families, school, work etc.
I remember contemplating this same topic many years ago. It's definitely fun to think about, and it might even be more fun if it was completely true.
It's also definitely more fun to discuss if you explain your point of view. Why don't you think it's completely true?
Life is just one goddamn trip. All drugs are - are simply another medium through which we may experience the ride. Sort of like; "It's not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes." That's a quote I found somewhere. I think it fits the topic at hand quite well. Taking the trip analogy, drugs could be comparable to merely switching the form of transport. Say day to day, you cruise along in a 4x4. Then take a hit, and off you sail on a fucking boat. Or take a dose of LSD and now you're on the rails, bumping along in a train carriage. I don't know. But it's one BIG TRIP that's for sure.
Well, hell, I don't even see tracers now (after coming down). And while I know the vibrational Truth that we all are One, I'm not experiencing it like I was. It has been a long, strange trip indeed, and I'm in a higher place overall than I was when I started some while ago, but I'm not at that place and though I know people with a lot of experience tripping - including serious exploration of far out things like ayahuasca, 5-MeO-DMT, and ibogaine - I don't know very many people staying at that place for more than days or weeks. But it's a nice thought. "...put in some effort..." I have and it's paid off for me.
The Bergson quote might help here. A trip is classified as such if it changes you. If it doesn't, I don't consider it a trip. And if you're changed you're not the same person. If you 'come down' that means you are coming down to the place that you were had you not been on the trip, which isn't possible. You don't need to stay at the 'higher level', whatever that is.
Let's lose the "getting high, coming down" analogies...... They're just conveniant words to describe psychedelic experience, which could use a whole set of it's own words-these don't exist because they mean nothing to the uninitiated. I experience psychedelics, and I sober up, hopefully retaining some spark of understanding from that experience, and incorporating it into myself. Drugs are not staircases, and no particular level is inherently linked to their use.
All words come from internal experiences. Just because someone hasn't seen or tasted a bagel doesn't mean there isn't a word for them. Yes, the psychedelic experience is an internal one, and an observer doesn't fully appreciate the 'coming up' of a drug - though he surely does partially, since many drug effects are observable physiological changes. Actually reading your post several times I'm not sure what you intended to say.
What do y'all think the hood thugs think about when they trip out? Like... Hey man cops would be out of a job if we weren't making a ruckus all the time it's like we're a cog in the machine making the system run man hey man fuck the system Only the dialect is way off
