Recently houseless for the first time ever. It's kinda scary out there so far, but chanting helps me get a grip most times. I am more of a camping type guy don't have a tent though(yet) and not sure where i can camp without getting arrested for it. I was able to get a food card before I was asked to leave my prior residence so that is at least good for 1 year. I went to a shelter today for the first time to eat and take a nap. Ended up getting most of my stuff stolen, bless whoever took it i hope it serves them well. I am pretty light on gear for now, have my phone, knife, and food card but only cause it was hidden on me. Anyone that can give me advice on what gear I really need to survive would be most appreciated. Maybe even some advice of the road like how/where i can travel on foot somewhat safely and or sleep in a pinch.

Give it some time you will learn to love it! Houses are over rated and way over priced these days in most countries...

What country you in? Might help people give you more of an idea that relates to your requirements.

One of the best word of advice, but I think you have lost all by your post above. Dont show off your valuables, dress as the locals do and if your in a foreign coutry(with no street smarts) shut your mouth.

Ive done it all over the world, great way to meet people and see the real world not the artificial make beleive world, people like to think they live in.

Yes it does help to know what country your in. But a very good thing to do would be to leave the city. Cities are just diseased pits of this culture. But make sure you have some gear before hand. Some recommendations would be: good backpack, good sleeping bag, tarp, knife, limited practical clothing. The rest will pretty much come together. You will pick up tips on various ways to get rides and food along the way. But definatly stay away from cities. Horrible places.
