dont think so,,.. Its probably a glycoalkaloid that gives you a belly ache. Common with unripened fruits. nausea and dizziness will be confused with hallucinations. we had eaten tons of these. When we was kids we used to think we could make wine from them. never did, never got sick or drunk on them. probably some fairy tale to keep the kids from eating them. coming home purple and pissing off moms..
ok thx ya i read lots of stuff on the web and most say different things some say no it's a myth other say yes but it's mild like Marijuana. some say you have to use the unripe fruit, stems and leafs and make a tea. others say the sap is what you have to use. was curious to see what the groups thoughts were on it. from what i've seen on here theirs some very cool and informative people on here which is very refreshing to see.
good know before i raid the giant mulberry tree in my yard thats currently full of unripe and half ripe mulberries. They'll just be used for what they have been for the last 4 years PIES!!!
think someone would of identified the compound within the sap by now.. let us know what you find out.
Ok after doing more research on the web i decided to try it and see what happens. Their was no real risk something horrible happening. I ate 80 unripe mulberries. about 30 minutes later i started getting an upset stomach, an hour in i wish i hadn't ate them. It can only be explained like this remember the worst FLU you ever had and compress it into 8 hours of hell followed by explosive diarrhea. I don't think i'll ever eat a mulberry again ripe or not.
