I'm a 20 year old 5'4" female. I go to the gym about 4 times a week and eat around 1200 calories a day. No matter what I do, my body is just not responding to any workouts or dieting I do. I'm not a fad dieter and do not starve myself. I usually eat 4 small meals a day.

Any ideas of what I can try? Other than healthy work outs and balanced diets, I've only tried drinking tea and cranberry juice (Just delish and good for me, but no weight loss).

I'm trying to do this the healthy way.

I wouldn't stress it, then. If you're going to the gym that much, you're probably healthy. I'm 5'1", and 185 lbs at last weigh-in. But I also run, lift a lot of weights (where a lot of my 185 lbs comes from), and do martial arts. My blood pressure is perfect, and I already beat diabetes. I eat well over 2000 cal a day. The doctor says I'm in great shape, but if you ask most guides I'm obese.

Screw them. If you're healthy and working out, you're fine.

I'm also a 20 year old female, 5'2'' and when I was 240 lbs it was IMPOSSIBLE for me to lose weight, no matter how much dieting and exercising I did.

But all in all, after 100 lbs lost, I can safely say that the reason that I could not lose weight was hormonal. It's not unlikely for females to have this disorder and not know that they have it. Read the wiki and if you have any of the symptoms, such as low sex drive, weight gain/inability to lose weight, no or irregular periods or strange body hair, you may have PCOS and should go to your gynecologist and have some bloodwork.

    Check your thyroid!
If that's the problem, avoid soy (which is in A LOT of processed food), eat iodine (sea weed!! Dulse and wakame!!!), pears, and lots of fruits and veggies :)

Maybe your body's simply adjusted to the exercise and the lowered caloric intake. Sort of like a plateau. I think surprising it should do the job.

Now, fad diets are exactly that - fad. But playing around a little to kick-start things never hurt anybody.

Try zig-zagging your calories in a way that will add up to either what you are eating now, or your BMR, but no more.

    I.E:
    Instead of having 1200 today + 1200 tomorrow... (total = 2400)

You could try 400 today + 2000 tomorrow.
For two weeks. Alternate the days. Now I know this probably sounds like starvation. And this is NOT going to work in the long term. But what it will do, is make your body think a little "WTF IS GOING ON HERE" and possibly start getting some results!

    PS: It doesn't
have to be as drastic as 400 + 2000. The numbers, as well as the overall total are for your own adjustment. Take into consideration your resting metabolic rate and exercise to work out what's best.

    One pound = 3500 calories.
You can do the math :]

    Good luck!

Hi. You know I'm thinking I may have this. I'm really freaked out. I do have some italian in me, but I am getting hair in areas I shouldnt. Like on my neck and chin, it's gross. I have stray hairs that grow on my neck, and chin hair not like a beard but like spikes of black hair that I Have to shave or use nair on. I'm white too, so it's harder to hide. I was at one point 260 lbs, and no one believes that I was. I am now 200 lbs, which is still too heavy. One day if I eat more than two meals, or a small steak, and my stomach is kinda bulging right now. Whereas a week ago I had hardly one at all. I have irregular periods. I usually have them late in the second month, but this time it was sooner than normal.
I don't look obese at least I don't think so, but I'm nervous about gaining weight and my hips and all it sucks.

What did you do to lose 100 lbs. I would KILL to look like I used to. I am only 23 and want to experience the youth that I should have.

    Main signs of PCOS:

    Hair growth
    Weight gain around the midsection
    EXTREME MOODSWINGS
    Irregular periods

You wanna lose 100 lbs? Call your doctor. Go on a birth control pill meant for regulating hormones.

Not just any birth control pill, you need to be sure to use bioidentical hormones, and in the right ratios and at the right times, which requires the right tests. You need go to the right doctor who does the right tests--saliva tests--otherwise you won't truly know what's available, you'll only know what's in the blood serum.

Look up how to balance your hormones naturally or something like that, Dr John Lee and Virginia Hopkins.

Literally just being overweight can cause further hormone imbalance, too.

What about carbs? Do you eat a lot of bread, potato, rice, etc.? Those will metabolize as sugars and help you put on weight.
