i don't think i could ever grow out of metal i can't get bored of metal i grew up with it have lived and breathed metal for 10 years go to as many gigs as i can moshing is so much fucking fun
Recognizable I certainly grew out of moshing haha. Yes it's cool but now I prefer to listen better (and i generally smoke weed before a concert, preferably during). I was the same at 18  (does not have to mean anything in your case of course, hehe) Now I only dig the highlights of doom and black metal, sometimes some (nordic) folk metal too but pretty much only when it's mixed with black metal I still dig classic heavy metal as well but pretty much only the stuff I was into before.
I fucking love metal, however there is other good music out there I can enjoy as well that's not metal. Don't know if I would like the club music you are referring to and I have a hard time imagining someone giving up metal for that. I wonder where they ever a metalhead in the first place?
It's my belief that if you ever grow out of any musical "genre", it's because you never liked it much in the 1st place!!!!!!...and you were just following the latest "fad", but that is fashion, NOT music loving!!! As a sage used to say: "Once a metalhead, ALWAYS a metalhead"!!!!!
Exactly......tranes music is so repetative although metal can b too but I wont exchange one for the other...
People have some weird idea that some music is only for youth. I grew out of classical music but came back to it, then grew out of it again. I've dipped in and out of metal too, and I'm into it right now. What you like doesn't depend on maturity, if there is even such a thing.
Perhaps I get into new metal again as well but I doubt it. Whenever I get into it again it is just my fav stuff I know already except for maybe a couple of new albums/bands that could be lumped into roughly the same category generally.
I don't believe I will grow out of metal, although my music interests ebb and flow. Sometimes I will go on a metal kick and listen to it all the time, some days I will prefer prog metal like Tool or Porcupine Tree, others I will blast some good old Pantera or Slayer thrash, other days I don't even want to hear anything remotely resembling metal and plug into some classical or new age. It all depends on my mood. But I agree with whoever said 'once a metalhead always a metalhead.'
I'm 29. i think i've done all the growing im going to do. metal rules. there's Metal for any mood you're in. not growing out of it anytime soon.
I have to say that I dislike the term "growing out" of metal, as it implies that metal is a kind of music that only kids listen to. That it's a childish/immature genre of music, lacking in intelligence. It is a very misunderstood genre, and also, most people who don't listen to metal still hold the stereotype that metal fans are neanderthal, narrow minded meatheads. You don't really hear the term "growing out of" applied to any other musical genre, so just that term itself is evidence of the ignorance and lack of knowledge that most people (who don't listen to metal) have of metal as a genre of music.
Based on my experience, a lot of the people that seem to 'grow out' of Metal end up getting into Jazz and Fusion. Not a musician myself but I know more than one that has gone from playing Metal to playing Jazz and Fusion, including my own father.
I don't understand it either I just don't see it. I mean maybe playing it less to enjoy others music , but to totally give it up, nah man. I mean for instance I grew up living & breathing Nirvana, now with that being said I do not listen to it every day , but I still love them & consider them my favorite band of my Generation. Get it? What I liked as a teen I still do, I just have discovered or rediscovered other things as well
I can think of quite a few bands whose members are fans of jazz/fusion as well as metal, and some bands actually play a sub-genre of metal that combines metal with jazz/fusion elements. And one of my favourite guitar players plays in 2 bands. One is a metal band, and the other is a jazz band. So a love for metal music, and a love for jazz/fusion music are in no way mutually exclusive of each other. I'm sure there are jazz fans and musicians who look down on metal music, but they are simply ignorant, and do not understand it. Who is the more enlightened? Those who "grow out" of metal and get into jazz/fusion, or those who are into both metal and jazz/fusion?
Obviously, the universe doesn't object what music one should prefer. I suppose if one's interest in Metal diminishes then so be it. They can listen to whatever music they want to. But yes, it's foolish to hate on a genre simply because it no longer appeals to you.
I think you just reach a stage where it's all the same. I'm in that stage now. Nothing seems new, everything has been already done. These moods usually last a month or two and I'll go listen to some folk/country/bluegrass. Then one day metal will seem awesome again. Also, many people are closed minded on the different metal genres so if you're into death metal, you may not like black metal etc and let's face it, death metal although the best genre, it's all the same. Not technically, but it is? So if you can't find solitude in the surrounding genres you're only limiting yourself to that one sound and you'll grow out of it.
Of course, there is no problem with that in principle, but a lot of people who "grow out of" metal look down upon it, and stick their noses up at it. Just the phrase "growing out of" is demeaning to the genre. To say your tastes changed is okay, saying you "grew out of it" implies that you now see that genre as beneath you. Then again, some people who are into metal make derogatory remarks about other genres of music. In general, genre elitists are usually ignorant and narrow minded, and not as intellectual as they give themselves credit fot.
I don't agree with that implication. If I use the term grew out of it I simply mean I'm not into it anymore. I don't look down on things I grew out of by definition at all.
